Man, he's an old fart... what does he know about computers?
1/8/2007 9:02:09 PM
not saying he doesn't know the business just seems like a funny argument
1/8/2007 9:05:51 PM
well they have a shitload of money that they can throw behind products even if they are inferior

A good way to tell where the tech industry is NOT going: listen to bill gates predictions.Stick to stealing ideas, being anticompetitive, and taking over markets. Let the big boys find the next big thing.

i find it funny he mentions sony when they're in a battle to the death over hd dvd vs blueray & xbox vs ps3
1/9/2007 12:09:07 AM
He's got a point. As much as mac boys love to tote their seriously over priced electronics, there's no Apple console or Xbox Live equivalent. No, itunes does not remotely fucking count.
1/9/2007 12:25:58 AM
^ WTF are you talking about?Gates didn't say anything about the Xbox or Live, and that has absolutely no bearing on Apple. They don't compete with the console market in any way, and haven't made an effort to (in recent memory at least).
1/9/2007 12:31:41 AM
Hahaha, you put a dollar sign in your Microsoft abbreviation instead of an S.Because they make so much money. That's freaking hilarious!

what i don't get is why apple made better processor with a shitty o.s. (not widely accepted) and decided to make their computers w. an intel processor and kept the shitty o.s. good thing they came up with ipod.... its the only think keeping the morons afloat.
1/9/2007 12:35:38 AM
apple's microprocessor division was rolling in profits. i don't know why they cut them down either!!
1/9/2007 1:23:36 AM
so when did tech talk become chit chat?
1/9/2007 1:27:50 AM
I was in M$'s huge display tent earlier today, and they did indeed have home theater and automation stuff everywhere . . . . But they were crap compared to what EVERYONE ELSE at the show had on display. Of course every cab and billboard in Vegas has Vista ads, so nobody knows or cares either way.

^^about the same time Chit Chat became Tech Talk.

first i'm a bit of a gamer so until they start releasing tons of games for osx i'll never be a fan.and second it shouldn't be hard to make an o.s. that won't crash when you specified every single chip inside the computer and don't have to have drivers for hundreds of thousands of other pieces incorporated. i'm seriously not that impressed.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 7:34 AM. i'm not going to claim to know everythingi bet you feel good busting someone on a technicality what i'm saying is if they could build their former chip into a dual core and keep up in clock speed. the architecture was better & faster. & i'm not gonna lie i suck with linux (gentoo) but Mplayer is the best thing since sliced bread and so is the speed from not having too many B.S. applications running constantly in the background.[Edited on January 9, 2007 at 11:57 AM. I dont think the Zune as it exists today is anywhere near what Microsoft is planning. They're probably planning it as the mobile media component of windows/xbox/microsoft live. So you'd buy your media through live marketplace or record it on your microsoft IPTV device and have it transfer to your zune via wifi automatically. So say you're out and about and you're talking to a friend and they say oh man show x is so cool you should check it out. So you whip out your Live integrated smartphone, pull up your account, and order the show. It downloads the show to your xbox/vista pc/WHS while you're out. Then you go home and as you're walking around it transfers the show to your zune via wifi. You're ready to go. And you can also share that show with other people. We know the live integration with the smartphone, xbox, and vista is already there. I can't imagine they wouldn't put it into WHS. So the last piece of infrastructure here is the auto transfer to the zune. But that cant be that hard. While the zune right now does seem kinda dumb, I think the possibilities for what microsoft is doing are pretty cool.

It is a great concept. But it won't catch on until Apple comes in right behind MSoft and dumbs it down for the masses.
1/9/2007 12:17:22 PM
xbox live is probably already easier to use than anything apple has to offer.
1/9/2007 12:36:49 PM
Xbox live doesn't have anything too spectacular going on in the ease-of-use dept., it's a pretty run-of-the mill interface. It's big advantage is in its content and accessibility (from an Xbox).
