because cowher was actually contemplating leaving the steelers. not saying he was considering the state job, but there were all kinds of things that made it seem feasible. everyone[/] thought that it [i]could actually happen. dungy has given no indication of him thinking about retiring or looking for another job. plus, peyton and he still have to get the superbowl monkey off their backs. hell, they need to get the playoff wins monkey off their backs.

Trestman to the raiders?
Quote :
" Former Raiders offensive coordinator Marc Trestman was the first person targeted by Davis this time around. It remains unclear whether Davis envisions Trestman as the successor to Shell or a suitable replacement for unsuccessful offensive coordinators Tom Walsh and John Shoop.

Oakland scored a league-low 168 points this season, or 45 fewer than any other Raiders team in the franchise's 47-year existence. The 8.6 points per game by the Raiders offense is the seventh-worst by any team since the team began play in 1960.

Davis phoned Trestman on Wednesday night and asked him to fly to Oakland for a face-to-face meeting today, according to a person close to Trestman. Davis is interested in gauging Trestman's interest in rejoining the team he left after the 2003 season.

Trestman directed the league's top-ranked offense in 2002, the last time the Raiders made the playoffs and posted a winning season.

The Raiders are 15-49 since their Super Bowl appearance after the 2002 season. Trestman told Davis he is interested in being the coach if there's a vacancy. Trestman's associate said, for now, that Davis envisions Trestman replacing Walsh and Shoop.

He was offensive coordinator at North Carolina State the past two seasons.

In other news, the Raiders signed the following free agents: running back Tony Jackson, offensive tackle Mark Wilson, wide receiver Leo Bookman, center Jon Condo and defensive end Bryant McNeal. "
