Ozzie, how huge are your balls?
1/3/2007 8:53:11 AM
AGod
1/3/2007 8:54:43 AM
Ronnie Lott - best SS ever!!!
1/3/2007 8:57:22 AM
Cal Ripken Jr.- 2 time MVP '91, '83- Most games played consecutively- Most homers at the position- Multiple gold glove winner- Rookie of the year '82
1/3/2007 9:04:40 AM
THIS ISN"T A SERIOUS THREAD(and if it were, you'd be wrong about Ripken)
1/3/2007 9:12:38 AM
How could one make a list of the best SS's ever & leave off the best of all time, Honus Wagner?
1/3/2007 12:23:13 PM
1/3/2007 12:25:34 PM
we're talking about the Waffen SS right? I'll go with General Kurt 'Panzer' Meyer.
1/3/2007 12:27:38 PM
Clearly the best all around SS in the game today. The best ever? I'm going to go with Ripken solely because I don't know enough Honus Wagner to make that decision. Ripken had all the intangibles. Defensively, there was and there never will be any comparison to Ozzie Smith.
1/3/2007 12:30:25 PM
honus wagner, because his baseball card is worth a ton of money
1/3/2007 12:33:57 PM
Honus Wagner is a fucking dumbass. He doesn't even know 'Pittsburgh' ends in an 'H'
1/3/2007 12:35:03 PM
^^^He's had 1 good year. So now he's clearly the best in the game? Whatever. As much as I despise the yanks, Reyes pails in comparison to Jeter & AROD. I'd probably put Renteria over him too, if you don't count his year in Boston.[Edited on January 3, 2007 at 12:39 PM. Reason : ]

i was going to say adrian wilson
1/3/2007 12:50:16 PM
I gotta go with A-Rod.2 gold gloves...over 300 homeruns, a batting title, 2 homerun titles before he moved to 3B[Edited on January 3, 2007 at 12:54 PM. Reason : Edit]
1/3/2007 12:53:22 PM
A-Rod definitely would have been if he didn't switch positions. A gold glove defensive player who put up offensive numbers no PERSON, let alone SS, has ever put up in the history of the game.---Actually I really do believe Reyes will be the best all around SS in the game going forward but I wouldn't put him ahead of Jeter or Tejada yet honestly. The comparison to Renteria is laughable though. Reyes is BARELY 23. If you're going to build a franchise going forward he is the ONLY choice for SS as far as I'm concerned.V haha.. it's not like anyone can understand what he says on those 'lessons' anyway even when he does it English..[Edited on January 3, 2007 at 1:04 PM. Professor Reyes

1/3/2007 1:14:55 PM
I'm glad pee wee reese was remembered. He's pretty nasty defensively on my MLB game.
1/3/2007 1:59:54 PM
I was about to say Ronnie Lott, but i realised he played Free Safety primarily...i'd go with Ripken with Oz as a strong second
1/3/2007 2:15:51 PM
Cal Ripken Jr.
1/3/2007 2:19:22 PM
1/3/2007 2:28:20 PM
If this was about strong safety, I would say Ronnie Lott.
1/3/2007 2:30:24 PM
Angel Berroa is on this list and not Ozzie Guillen. OK
1/3/2007 2:45:43 PM
Banks, ARod, and Jeter. And Jeter is SOOOOO much better than Ozzie Smith. C'mon.[Edited on January 3, 2007 at 3:06 PM. Reason : ozzie smith can't hit]
1/3/2007 3:04:57 PM
ARod nor Jeter should make it...maybe onto the list, but not the best ss ever. Ripken alone knocks them off the top spot. I still think it's one of the ole timers. Honus Wagner possibly.(although I have obviously never seen any of the ole timers play, i still think one of them should get the nod. the game was pure back then, no steriods, performance enhancers, etc...)
1/3/2007 3:17:17 PM
sigh, do you really think I would forget A-Rod, Ripken etc?Banks, ErnieEverett, AdamAppling, LukeReese, Pee WeeDark, AlvinAparicio, LuisWills, MauryGroat, DickBerroa, AngelLarkin, BarryOrdonez, ReyWilson, JackSmith, Ozzie[Edited on January 3, 2007 at 4:00 PM. Reason : r]

nobody's even going to mention vizquel? I mean, he didn't hit home runs, but he stole bases, hit for average and might be the best defensive ss ever. Yes, EVER
1/3/2007 4:44:29 PM
I saw what you did there, I wanted to break the news I'd say Alvin Dark, if only for the LSU connection and that my boy lives on Alvin Dark Rd. in Tigertown.
