so this morning my speedometer and odometer stop workingabout 30 secs later the engine light comes onI check the codes, got a 502, possible speed sensorgot out the handy dandy voltmeter, and checked all leadsI am showing power everywhere, but I am thinking the sensor may have died.....any other possible causes?Car: 2004 Honda Civic LX, 74,000 milesOh and it is def not the cable

its on the tranny, pull it out and check it.i can probably get you one from work. used of course.

testing the actual sensor is complicated and i'm not gonna get into it, but its not uncommon for them to go out on that car. its right behind the starter on top of the transmission, pull off the three prong gray plug from it, and look at the end of it with the clip side facing up.between the left pin and negative battery post, you should have no resistancebetween the left pin and the center you should have 12v with the ignition on, if not check fuse 4between the left and right pins you chould have 5v, if not check fuse 10, or it could be the cruise control unitif you have voltage at both and a good ground, then replace the sensorhttp://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=NIE&mfrpartnumber=SN7009&parttype=1179&ptset=A

^ thanks for the abovewill be replacing the sensor tommorrow, Had to take the entire intake off to get to it...and in the rain no doubt.will let you know how it turns out

shoulda just had to take off the intake resonator, takes about 5 min to do

granted you still need a standard 10mm 1/4" drive socket, universal joint, and like a 18" extension
