I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee and the other morning while driving home from work I noticed the engine was reving pretty high and was about 3K RPMs. I slowed down some to see if the RPMs would drop and it did but not much. I had the side mirror defrost on because there was still some frost on the side mirrors. I turned off the side defrost and the RPMs immediatley dropped to 2500 and then eventually to around 2200. Is this something I should be concerned about? Obviously I can turn off the side mirror defrost once I start driving but are there any other complications or any underlying problems I should be worried about?thanks

was the engine actually revving that high or was the tach just reading that high? bad grounds arent uncommon on those

Was the engine warmed up?

^^^ That's the last thing I need right now.^It had been running long enough to melt the frost on the windshield and drive 5 miles, so not really. Should I let it warm up longer before I drive?

Some powertrain control modules prevent torque converter lockup until the engine is warm. But if that was your case, then you should have experienced it before.

Ive noticed the high RPMs(3K) while driving but this is the first time I was able to figure out what was doing it, at least in this case.
