when i send out a fax, i want it to broadcast the fax number it's sending from...is this a function of the fax itself or the fax line? i realize the standard response is RTFM, but i've gone through all three manuals for the faxes i want to do this on (one's a brother, one's an HP, and one's a canon) and none of them mention this feature...one of the faxes already does this (the canon), but as i said, it's not listed anywhere in the manual, so i was wondering if this was a line feature, rather than a machine function

If the canon does it on the same line, it's a machine function. We just got one, and there is a field in the configuration for the fax number. This may just be for the cover pages though.I would think the recieving fax machine would have to have caller ID to know where it's getting a fax from, maybe...

this is not a feature of the fax machine - do you think phones have an option to send out the phone number it comes from?

well, i've found it on the HP...they call it "header" information...now i just need to find the brother menu

i was shocked when i was working at my co-op for the first time and i saw spam in the fax machine

^^ i didn't know it was required...our accounting firm is setting up mail server software to filter faxes sent to computers based on their phone numbers (so that they get sent to the correct project manager)...i have VERY little experience with fax machines and knew nothing about these "headers" i've got it, now, though...thanks for the input, y'all

haha, one time I was working with the DoD on a network issue, and they sent requested diagnostic info via fax because it was the "most secure way."I think DoD peaked when they developed TCP/IP.
