I SURE hope this starts a trend.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,238505,00.html

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man used flammable liquid to light himself on fire, apparently to protest a San Joaquin Valley school district's decision to change the names of winter and spring breaks to Christmas and Easter vacation.

The man, who was not immediately identified, on Friday also set fire to a Christmas tree, an American flag and a revolutionary flag replica, said Fire Captain Garth Milam.

Seeing the flames, Sheriff's Deputy Lance Ferguson grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran to the man.

Flames were devouring a Christmas tree next to the Liberty Bell, where public events and demonstrations are common.

Beside the tree the man stood with an American flag draped around his shoulders and a red gas can over his head.

Seeing the deputy, the man poured the liquid over his head. He quickly burst into flames when the fumes from the gas met the flames from the tree.

The deputy ordered the man to drop to the ground as he and a parole agent sprayed him with fire extinguishers.

"The man stood there like this," the deputy said with his arms across his chest and his head bent down, "Saying no, no, no."

The man suffered first degree burns on his shoulders and arms, Milam said.

Kern County Sheriff's Deputy John Leyendecker said the man had a sign that read: "(expletive) the religious establishment and KHSD."

On Thursday, the Kern High School Board of Trustees voted to use the names Christmas and Easter instead of winter and spring breaks.

So is a "Christophobe" a person who is afraid of Jesus, Christmas, or guys named Christopher? Or is it just garbled legalese for you're a dumbass?

Looks like his plan didn't work.

Now the guy gets to be prosecuted for arson and sent to a home for crazy people.

Interesting that they changed the name though. I imagine they didn't really have a reason to.

You know what cracks me up? All these assholes calling Fox News Channel "Faux News." It's stupid and it's not funny.

Fox News is far from perfect. But what many of you fail to understand is that the popularity of the channel results from its status as an antidote to liberal bias at most other news media outlets. Furthermore, every time one of you fucking know-it-alls calls it "Faux News," you are calling ALL the Democrats and other liberals that routinely appear on FNC's air idiots. So, keep it up.

No, I dont believe fox news made it up. IT's a real thing that happened.
What's ridiculous is the spin they put on it, they probably came up with the term christophobe.

And i dont believe I've ever called them Faux news.

We're sure you hope this starts a trend. We're also sure that like your Church, you will continue to stand in the way of progress and knowledge as long as you live.

Is it really any surprise that you're honest that you want these people to die? What would Christ say? You realize that Christ ministered to the people he felt really needed it, right? He didn't sit around wishing they would all set themselves on fire. Then again, when people like you ask "what would Jesus do" you respond by buying SUV's, moving to an expensive house in the hills and becoming some sleezy, third rate crook of a fucking lawyer. Way to go, buddy. You might be winning at capitalism but you fucking suck at this "Christian" thing.

^^^ I'll have you know that I came up with the term Christophobe. See the third post in this thread.

^^ Well then I guess I'm not a good Christian in your book. I'll just be on the same page as the Pope, Mother Teresa, Fulton J. Sheen, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all the saints. Where, oh where, did I go wrong?

The point - in a less smartass way - is that unless you're wearing a mitre on your head I'm not interested in your assessment of my Christianity.

It's probably more because Fox News us run like a sports show with lots of loud talking and short sound bites with neat sound effects than the more boring CNN and MSNBC and whatever else.

The typical person doesn't know enough to detect bias. Just look at all the surveys that show how many people though Bin Laden and Iraq were connected, and that the found WMDs in Iraq, all of which Fox news helps to promote.

First, concerning Fox News, it is ONE broadcast news organization (cf. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and other left-biased broadcast news organizations), but it is highly successful. In the meantime, Air America has gone bankrupt--in more ways than one--and other cable news outlets have seen ratings decline.

Second, concerning the somewhat brash style of Fox News, so what? Proper packaging of a product is smart and it matters. We'll see all the moaning purists that believe otherwise in the unemployment line.

Third, if all of you howling liberals think Fox News is SO bad and SO right-biased, then put pressure on pundits, celebrities, and elected officials not to appear on Fox's air. If you truly believe that Fox is SO bad, why wouldn't you WANT to do this? Self-evident answer: You're full of shit.

Fourth, just so you know--once again: (1) I am not a Republican and I am not a Christian. So, save your hackneyed attacks for someone else. And (2) there is plenty I don't like about Fox news, but one of the things I DO like is they don't report EVERYTHING with an incessantly left-leaning slant that I find sickening, frankly.

i like Fox news. They lie, and make shit up, but they dont shy away from it. Every other news orginization acts like they are good at reporting and have no bias. Fox is just like, "What, we act like Joe Bob the Democrat can refute Tom Delay. What? Thanks for being too poor to start your own news channel."

Its "reporting" with an attitude.

PS- Can everyone just agree that Air America didnt happen?

PPS- If you think ABC has a liberal bias you havent been watching their coverage for at least a year or more.

^ "Did you know" he doesn't just host a "morning show," Stephanopoulos hosts the political show of record on ABC--This Week, which is quite influential. In addition, he routinely appears on the nightly news to provide political commentary and as a key commentator during election coverage. STFU.
