Summary: If you're from Richmond what Apartment/townhome experience do you have? My choices, let me show you them.

I'd like your opinions on some apartment complexes I'm looking at for my co-op semester. I've pretty much made my choice (option 1) but I'd like to see what you all think:

My work location: 5403 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Richmond, VA

1) Aspen Station - 2 Br, 2 Ba flat
http://www.aspenstation.com/map.html
General Location: NW Richmond, located within the golden 'The West End' I keep hearing about (the good area).
1500 Forest Run Drive, Richmond, VA 23228
Rent: a special $799/month short term (Jan-May), usually over $800-900
Utilities: not included
Furnished: no (they refer you to someone who can charge a fee to furnish for you)
Distance to work: about 20 minutes (17.6 miles)

I like these people, I used a form to request more info and they called me a few hours later. Pimp status.

2) Bremner Woods - 2 Br, 1.5 Ba 2 townhome
http://www.weinsteinproperties.com/find_frame.asp?city=Richmond&loc=Bremner+Woods
-> Bartlet
General Location: NW Richmond, located within the golden 'The West End' I keep hearing about (the good area).
4501-A Sprenkle Lane, Richmond VA 23228
Rent: $740/month
Utilities: not included
Furnished: doesn't say, so probably not
Distance to work: 21 minutes (16.8 miles)
-> Option 1 has better stats

3) Squire Hill/Lantern Ridge - 2 Br, 2 Ba
http://www.weinsteinproperties.com
go to find an appartment, richmond, option 11(Squire Hill/Lantern Ridge)
General Location: SW Richmond, located in what seems the ghetto
4037 Lamplighter Drive, Richmond VA 23234
Rent: $750/month
Ult/Furn: no
Distance to work: 8 minutes (5.2 miles)
-> No fucking way I'm living in the ghetto of Richmond

Other places I'm considering:
Kings Crossing/Royal Court
10002 Castile Ct.
Richmond, VA 23238
-Has 3 Br, 2.5 Ba option incase we get another co-op in on the deal.

And that's it. I like option 1, good options and a good area according to the West End signifier and google maps (but not Wiki).

you probably should have put this in the other thread, but here goes.

edit out the plant address first.

well,

getting to the west end is hell during rush hour from there. morning and afternoon.

the commute up the chippenham or parham (i think thats what i took) is nice, but it still sucks balls. its where you want to be, but then if you are into going out downtown to richbrau, the bottoms or the fan, then it sucks too. and you're going to be driving through prime locations to get dui checked.

however, thats a really nice pricepoint for that area. like, too nice.

not sure of the exact properties, i havent been to those.

now, for number 3, youve got to be crazy.

that place is a total shit storm.

i actually looked at one of them, and the unit that "youd be going into" had the worst mold smell ive ever encountered.. and if they were going to show me that in that state i didnt want to know what it was like before.

i lived in midlothian and the west end.

if i'd do it over again, i would have lived in the fan, but then you're in the situatio nwhere im in now.

nice historic district, close to great bars, but 2 blocks from the ghetto.

essentially, the west end is nice to live in, and has great shopping, but its lax in nightlife and ease of commute.

but, for rule of thumb, i wouldnt live within 15 miles of the plant location..

totally hood, and youll find when you start that everyone drives at least that far.

i know king's crossing is pretty good....or atleast it was in the 80's when my parents lived there, and from what i can tell it's only gotten nicer in that area. i'll check with my brother about other areas around that area that may be nice since he lives downtown..

what part of midlo did you stay in? cuz that's where i'm from (and going home to in 2 days!! ::is excited::

Well I can't edit the address out but I got it from googling DuPont anyway.

Yea, definitely not going number 3, no fucking way, especially since the price isn't that good.

Getting dui checked won't be a problem for me, at least not yet. See my age, I'm pretty careful about that stuff.

What is the fan? And which location are you talking about that is 2 blocks from the ghetto? I don't think it'll be that much of an issue, what do you think? I'm certain that location won't really interfere with having a good nightlife anywho (I say that now, haha).

youd be surprised how much of a bitch it is to have all your friends living in the fan and you have to drive home 25 minutes away every night after going out at the bars all night

if the co-op crowd is anything like it was when i was there, everyone is severely overpaid and underworked, which led to absurd amounts of alcohol being consumed.

According to Wiki:
Quote :
"The Fan is a district of Richmond, Virginia, so named because of the "fan" shape of the roads that extend west from N. Belvidere St., on the eastern edge of Monroe Park, westward to Boulevard. The Fan is one of the most easterly points to the city's Westend section, and is bordered to the north by Broad St and to the south by Cary Street. Many cafes and locally owned restaurants are located here, as well as historic Monument Avenue. "

This means the Fan is only about 5-6 miles from options 1 and 2...I don't see this Monument street you're talking about, http://maps.google.com

Found it, thanks.

Yea I read what I quoted.

http://tinyurl.com/y3wnva

It's about 8 miles from option 2 to Cary & Boulevard, 13 minutes.

Anyway you all think these are good to go locations? I'm not about to get mugged trying to get the mail am I?

Ben I thought you said in the other thread everyone is overworked. I'd agree with the underworked, though. I didn't do jack shit in summer '05 but got whored out these past two semesters. And I got my Tech Review coming up...

I would suggest getting an apartment at either St. John's Woods or Beaufort Oaks. I subleted a place in St. John's Woods; relatively quiet, but I guess it is considered a "ghetto". I didn't have any problems when I lived there. You're also right next to a hospital if anything does happen.

Beaufort Oaks is located right on the beginning of east Midlothian Turnpike, going toward the city proper. The place also seemed quaint when I visited a co-op who rented there.

Yea, I think I'll start looking for some Midlothian places.

Sorry about not putting this in the other thread, I've been under the impression people don't like having threads 'necrod' and figured this would be a bit more tuned towards living situations.
