I am looking to buy a maltese puppy for my girlfriend. Any of ya'll know any good breeders or adoption agencies around here that have some? I checked the Wake SPCA and they mainly have larger dogs. Thanks for any help.[Edited on December 22, 2006 at 6:52 PM. Reason : any small breed works too, thanks]

My wife just got a maltese last week. Breeder is in Moorseville though, so thats a pretty good haul from Raleigh. Dogs cost $Texas too. Very cool dog though. We have a small fenced in back yard, so a big dog or a dog with high energy would have been a disaster.

IF you get a maltese, please plan on also purchasing the proper grooming tools when you give it to her. Maltese aren't just small, cutesy dogs... they require a lot of brushing that she'll have to do either on a weekly or daily basis. They MATT easily!! (this coming from my groomer's perspective) Oh, and absolutley no clothing for that dog either - it makes them matt as well. Even more so.I personally love Papillions and Long haired Chihuahuas. They are great little dogs, not too prone to overbreeding health problems and most of the time, have lovely personalities. They are low shedding and although they have longer hair, dont' require as much brushing as the maltese do. They should also be less expensive than the maltese as well.

My mom has two if ya want em(or just one)-1 male, 1 female-both purebreed malteses. She can't take care of them so we took them away from her but we can't keep them.[Edited on December 23, 2006 at 3:39 PM. Reason : ]

The pug is a superior breed of canine.

Pugs are like the ugly crackhead breed of dogs.

^^That's because you're a horrible human being. I'm using the term "human being" liberally here.

Pugs are pretty bad.

Pugs are hideous, problematic, largely worthless excuses for dogs that would more accurately be lumped in the "vermin" category.Malteses are hardly better. If you're looking for a small, girlfriend-type dog, I'd vote Papillon.

PUGS RULE!They are more pets than they are dogs.[Edited on December 25, 2006 at 11:54 PM. Reason : STILL KICK ASS DOGS]

Maltese have strong personalities and require a good bit of attention.Don't buy her one if she isn't prepared to do that.In fact, don't buy her a dog unless she's prepared to take care of it.

i want a medium size dog
12/27/2006 9:53:07 AM
I've always thought of myself as the kind of dude that would like a medium to large size dog. You know, a dog I can wrestle and such with. Then my parents got a little maltese, the definition of an unmanly dog. I will have to admit, that damn pup has owned me more then my aunt's big Golden Retriever could ever have dreamed of.The damn thing is like part cat in the way it acts what with her stubborn refusal to do anything she doesn't want to do and random bouts of unexplainable energy.
