Is there a store in the Triangle area to buy different varieties of hot sauces? I just had an obvious gift idea for my girlfriend... she douses her food in Texas Pete to an extent you would not beleive. She's not picky about what foods she'll use it on, either. Some new hot sauces would be a good gift.

Closer to Raleigh, I saw several varieties at the NC Sports and gifts (or whatever the hell it's called) that's by the food court at crabtree.

hate it when people do that... shows they can't appreciate the myriad tastes in most food, either because they have less sensitive taste buds, or more often than not because they are not very observant by nature and just gobble down food without chewing it slowly and savoring the tastes.

my friend used to do the same. he would would put hot sauce on rice, chicken, pizza, kebabs, everything, and he was a fast eater. i gave him a lecture one day (the paragraph above), and now, 2 months later, he doesn't use hot sauce anymore, and takes twice as long to eat.

and he thanks me for letting him really taste and appreciate the complex mixture of flavors and textures found in most foods.

if you really have to use something, use herbs, fresh or dried. i use oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, italian mixture (mixture of first four), dill, paprika, turmeric, etc. and olive oil on most foods as well.

here is something that works, and what my friend used.

when you are eating, eat in a quiet place, and really chew your food and move it around in your mouth. try to visualize the textures you encounter, and the flavours as well. compare them with textures/flavours of other foods. and see if you can feel more flavours when eating something the second time.

Way to shit all over my thread with your snotty attitude. I'll be sure to inform my 22 year old girlfriend that she's not eating her Tostido's salsa, Papa John's pizza, Ritz crackers, and Campbell's Tomato Soup properly since she adds hot sauce to it. You must be a fun guy to hang out with. I can imagine you're the type who always enters the conversation with "[smirk] Um, actually...."

I've now concluded you are an excellent troll. gg would be trolled again.

hey, if i was able to change one person, that is good enough for me.

i can imagine you are the type who can't take any advice.

try reading it again, and this time chew slowly, and really feel the words, and don't add hot sauce.

think about this logically. so what that she is 22 years old (which you added as an edit)? my friend is 45 years old. habits are formed when one is young. he had been a fast eater since he was little. and obviously, didn't appreciate the flavors already present in food (he said everything tastes "plain"), and so added hot sauce to everything, to remove the "plain-ness".

i am sorry for my attitude in my first post. didn't mean to be condescending.

it is just a suggestion. try food without hot sauce and use the visualization technique i described above.

sri racha is pretty good

by the same brand, the chile garlic sauce is a must have

get some of the tabasco peppers in vinegar, you can refill the vinegar and it will get hot as hell again

i make my own condiment, habanero jam, which is excellent on crackers, sandwiches and stir fries. you could find something similar but not as diabolical in a hot pepper jelly.

if you don't want to poke around in a creepy asian market i suggest whole foods.

0EPII1, just because you are Jewish and support ridding the world of Palestine does not mean that we will take you seriously.

On that note, this sounds like a really good gift idea.

One answer:

Smoky Mountain Farms Jelly House
In Winery Square, Hwy 321 N (East Parkway)
Gatlinburg, TN
(865) 436-4049

They take phone orders. Think they have a website too, though Google was no help.

It's a bit late for Christmas, but as someone who eats and is given a lot of hot sauce (got 10 bottles last Christmas ) these people make the absolute best product on the planet.

You want to purchase their "sweet vidalia onion hot sauce"

It's not a general use hot sauce like Texas Pete, you have to experiment to find what it works on because you don't want to loose the taste of the sauce, but it's still got enough heat to make you respect it.

^good point. Just because she uses alot of texas pete, doesnt mean that she wants it to be hotter. I like alot of texas pete on certain things but I like it just the way it is. She would probably appreciate something similar but a bit hotter.

I dunno why, but Cholula is HUGE up here. I grew up in NC so naturally we even had Texas Pete in the elementary school cafeteria, but Cholula has a MUCH better taste. ftw.

the flea market has a spot set up near the atms usually, if they're open, or there's a real good one in the cotton exchange in wilmington though that's likely not much help. actually if you go to crabtree valley mall and go in that sports-fan store by the food court they have a nc state sauce pack gift that could potentially be good. also I'm sure that hippie little grocery store in cameron village probably has something different. fresh market I think is the name

anyway, why are we talking about this? i apologized for my attitude early on in the thread, and then offered a useful visualization technique to enjou food on its own, and then i even gave suggestions for specialty hot sauces (5, no less).

so, let's drop this.

I love fucking Tabasco sauce. I like to put it on numerous things. The ironic thing is I usually like to eat the food for a little bit without hot sauce, and then I like to try to taste different by adding other spices/sauces. It amazes me how different you can make something by just throwing something on there. I really do enjoy spicy ass hot food. Doesn't mean I can't/don't enjoy other foods too. Just depends on what mood I'm in when I sit down to eat.

In conclusion, go screw Trap, and next time I'm in the RDU area, I'll be sure to hit up Southern Season for some new shit.
