This is rediculous. So far ive gotten back 3 grades, 2 of which are wrong. Sure it is the difference between an A and an A+ or A and an A-, but it matters. It espically makes me mad that when you get to see all of your grades on assignments throughout the yr and mentioned to them that they needed to change the grade on it and they said that it will be, it never got changed. Seems like the teachers are being slack this semster for me and its really pissing me off.

A single individual's experience with 2 instructors accounts for 25,000+ other students and their experiences with hundreds of other instructors. Please don't use generalized statements ... they really do nothing for you ... especially as a Statistics major. So far as what to do, have you tried emailing either instructor asking for an explanation of the grade breakdown? Have you looked up the provisions for requesting a grade change OTHER than asking the instructor to do so? And in general, email response time from instructors ranges from 0-48 hours. If they don't respond after that, something is probably wrong. Action response time ranges from 0-7 days, depending on the nature of the request.[Edited on December 21, 2006 at 3:45 AM. Reason : .]

I hope you kept all of your graded assignments and tests. Otherwise, you may be SOL if it comes down to your word v. the gradebook.
12/21/2006 9:21:26 AM
I've had grades get entered wrong before. Contact your instructor, ask them for a grade breakdown, find their mistake, show them what you grades should be, get them to correct your grade with reg and rec. It's not that hard.
12/21/2006 11:13:00 AM
^ I had to do this last fall. I calculated that I should have had a B in my Logic class, but in packtracks it showed up as an F. It turned out that the instructor had lost my exam(after sending me a grade for it, but somehow before entering it in his grade book) and assumed that I never took it.
12/21/2006 12:23:47 PM
one thing, don't go to them with a chip on your shoulder. go up and ask politely and calmly, and clearly explain the situation. they will be much easier to deal with in that case.
12/21/2006 1:32:49 PM
Perlith, you can call it a generalization if you want, but this is an experience many many students have. Some are just lazy and don't care, but a lot do care. I have emailed all of them, and i've received their Out of Office automatic email so I got to wait til Jan. 2nd when they return in the office. And Perlith, i dont know if you were referring to yourself as a stat. major or myself, but from the people i have talked to, there are many that have their grades messed up due to the instructors fault. And from the responses on here, I'd say it looks like a fairly common thing. So whether you are using a sample of 1,500-2000 people to make a statement about the entire United States, or 25+ people to make a statement about the NCSU population, it's the same difference. FACED

Grades are submitted electronically through the TRACS site. Rather than typing in a grade, you select from a pop-up list of grades, and it's easy to hit the wrong one by accident. And sometimes the profs don't check as carefully as they could...remember, the profs want to get the hell out of Dodge as much as the students do.They can be put right by filling out one change form, and a change due to a clerical error or due to inadvertantly overlooking student work is a routine matter. Just be tactful when you approach your professor--they like to be yelled at as much as you do.
12/21/2006 2:32:10 PM
My 2 cents on fixing up grades:1) If the Prof gives you a time they will be in their office so you can stop by to review your final, it's best to go in person rather than sending an email.2) As others have said, a little politeness goes a long way, especially if you think the grade is somehow being miscalculated. It's better to express confusion over the way it was calculated than to be confrontational about it.3) If you were close, but didn't quite earn the grade you wanted, you can stop by and hope to find a grading mistake on the final exam. Aside from that, I think I can safely speak for most faculty and say that no reason that you need the higher grade is going to sway the Prof to submit a grade change form.
12/21/2006 10:49:19 PM
^ Also, "change of judgment" is not an allowed reason for an instructor to make a grade change.

^ You're still required to be literate, jackass.
12/22/2006 3:30:32 PM
Literate according to dictionary.com says "able to read and write", I can do both. Nothing about grammer. Besides, everyone else knew what I was talking about, jackass.
12/22/2006 7:03:07 PM
grammAr
12/23/2006 2:10:59 AM
^pronounced Gram-er, therefore--Grammer
12/23/2006 2:26:57 PM

he probably just curved everyone down so the grade distribution would fit his bell curve
12/23/2006 2:49:20 PM
actually ncscu919 it is spelled grammar. Perhaps you should invest in a thesauraus. (not trying to be rude... just you're making your track record worse) "rediculous" "grammer"

^This thread's been dead for nearly three months now. Why have you wasted your first post here?
3/18/2007 9:08:52 AM
third of all, it is ncsu919. not ncscu919. gratz on your first post.
3/18/2007 12:36:45 PM
yeah, wtf was the point in bringing this back?
3/18/2007 12:50:40 PM
This thread is awesome now.
3/18/2007 1:25:06 PM
and why would i use a thesauraus? wouldn't it make better sense to get a dictionary? dumb bitch
3/18/2007 1:36:58 PM
^ You're calling people out for being dumb?!
3/18/2007 2:53:00 PM
If you get anything out of this thread, it would be to be polite and civil to the instructor. They are people too and make mistakes. Dont be an asshole about it, be understanding and patient.

^ncsu919: is that the same mouth you use to kiss your mother with. I didn't disrespect you...Others: I think it was a dandy first post. And perhaps dictionary would have more use for someone like [him]. Unlike [him] I can accept when i've made a mistake I stand corrected. And thank you for the person who pointed out that he has some nerve calling someone else "dumb." If I were trying to be a bitch I would point out that he was a dumbass for not interpreting his teacher's email correctly the first time. I would also point out that he was a dumbass for being rude to said teacher who gave him a chance to make up his final when he didn't need to. And three he should feel like a dumbass if there wasn't a line of at least three other dumbasses making up the test for the same dumbass reason. But I wouldn't point that out... because I wouldn't want to be a "bitch."
3/25/2007 7:55:52 PM
show me where i said anything about making up a test. kind of confused where you got that from. and your opinion is wrong.

^^^ you're right... that was in response to a different forum. (the test portion...)^^ you can believe whatever you choose to believe honestly. never really been a big forum person, until now.^ and there is a difference between a typo, and someone who staunchly defends their misspelling errors or corrects another person's CORRECT spelling. i am not denying that i spelled thesaurus incorrectly at the time...
