I am trying to make a DVD compilation of all my presentations so I can apply for Grad school. All of my presentations are on Hi-8 format. I recently purchased a DVD Recorder http://www.techtastic.ca/reviews5/dvd-r120.html to burn all of the presentations on DVD-R. Now when I try to play them on my computer it recognizes it as a blank disc. I am certain that my drive plays all DVD-R and DVD+R formats. What could be the problem? Does my DVD recorder record on an AVI or MPEG format that is not recognized by my drive. Thanks.

Make sure that you "finalize" the disc. The disc won't play in anything other than the dvd recorder until you finalize it because the DVD is not compliant with the standard dvd structure until the table of contents and other stuff is burned on the disc. Try reading the manual to see how to do this because it varies by model. If you finalize it and you still can't play it, then you should try another brand of DVD media because they are not all created equally. I've had some brands that will play fine in some units but not in others.Let me know if that works...

O,, I haven't done anything except hit stop when I'm finished, so I will try and finalize it when I get home today. I'll let you know.
