So, I almost hit this puppy last night on the highway. I pulled over and picked her up to hopefully find her owner and stuff, but there were no tags and she doesnt have a microchip. I thought at first that she was a chocolate lab, but she's got white on her chest and some white hairs on her feet. Also, her face is a bit thin for a lab. Any ideas?? looks like a weimereiner(sp?) raped a lab
12/14/2006 1:33:08 PM
haha thanks.. i'm no good at this picture posting crap. anyway, any ideas??? ps- I think we're going to keep her. NOW- we need a name! suggestions!?on her back near her tail, the hair starts to get really curly, and its very curly down her tail, so i'm wondering what type of breed has that. [Edited on December 14, 2006 at 1:33 PM. Reason : tail]

crap, I bet my g/f would knowShe's talked several times about a dog that looks just like a weimaraner but is dark colored instead of greyGuess it would help if I listened to her, haha
12/14/2006 1:35:07 PM
chesapeke bay retrievers are dark brown with curly hair . . looks like that and a lab mix of some sort . . although the ears look hound/beagle-ish.
12/14/2006 1:37:12 PM
she's got an appointment at the vet this afternoon for all her shots and stuff, so maybe they'll be able to tell me some breed possibilities. Names? she's pretty rowdy and full of herself, but scared of my giant cats at the same time, haha. very affectionate and smart. (already learned to sit for food, and fetch, since last night).

it looks an awful lot like a weimaraner/lab mix. nice looking puppy though. I wouldn't put too much stock on the weimaraner thing, though. Labs have been known to have skinnier than usual snouts, and most wei's cost so much money their owners tend to be pretty anal about what goes on with them. My brother-in-law's lab looks a lot like this one, except for the white spots.
12/14/2006 1:42:45 PM
chesapekes are huge and have a bigger head, thicker coat
12/14/2006 1:43:07 PM
hehe Rowdy would be a cute name
12/14/2006 2:00:15 PM
that's what I thought actually, I think rowdy suits her, but the fiance (sp) doesnt like it. I'm trying desperately to think of something so he doesnt name her something stupid (haha). Sister says Cocoa- and my sister is 12 lol.I'd like something sort of sophisticated, but nothing stuffy, ya know?

Oh my goodness, precious! And how nice of you to take care of her, too (That's the reason I have so many pups now)regardless, one of my best friends had a pup we thought was a weimaraner/lab mix... she was grey though. But looked very similar. You can see pics of her at http://good-times.webshots.com/album/551904211lEXkcWShe was much smaller then, but looked very similar to yours when she was older.[Edited on December 14, 2006 at 2:09 PM. yeah the fiance's parents have a weimeraner and It might be that but then where does the white come from? oh who knows. she's cute though! thanks guys!
12/14/2006 2:14:46 PM
some labs have a white spot on their chest and it isn't uncommon for a lab to have curly hair just ahead of their tail. My black lab used to have curly hair down half of her back but as she has gotten older now has maybe 6 inches of waves just ahead of her tail.
12/14/2006 2:22:32 PM
looks like a weimereiner(sp?)/lab mix
12/14/2006 2:40:23 PM
its not a wiemeriemer at all. It s some kind of lab mutt probably

name suggestions: ChanelHersheyReeseShelbyWhat area did you find her?Did you call the local SPCA or animal control to see if anyone reported a missing dog?You can put a found flyer up at the SPCA intake facility and other places. She looks like she's in good shape and might be someone's beloved pet.. they might be distraught that she's gone missing. A high energy pup like her might have climbed a fence or gotten out by accident. My dogs get out every once in a while and their tags fall off periodically so accidents happen. (mine are all microchipped - thankfully)just a thought.otherwise it's wonderful that you want to keep her and give a good home..

I would call around to see if a dog was reported missing. Also, flyers at local businesses in the area would help.I wonder if there'a lost/found pet website. They should do that and advertise it on television until it becomes as well known as google or yahoo or eBay.

Yes, I called all of the local vets offices and the shelters, including the county over's. I found her on the highway pretty far from anywhere populated, and she was in fairly bad shape (extremely dehydrated). She's not microchipped and didnt have any tags or a collar, but of course if I find out she is someone's pet I will return her!She just got back from the vet, fairly clean bill of health, with the exception of some intestinal worms. They agree with the lab/possible chesapeake bay retriever mix. She's now up to date on everything, and they gave me a free sample of heartguard and frontline and a puppy kit. she has a great personality, she'll run around and play with her toys, then out of nowhere just collapse and take a nap, haha I wish I could fall asleep that fast!

awesome!she's a really nice looking dogbtw Ben & Jerry (the hamsters) say hello. they're fat little things are still get along. ( 2 male hamsters living together is unheard of)
12/14/2006 6:01:22 PM
Yeah...I pretty much agree it's a hunting mutt, likely weimaraner x Chesapeake.
12/14/2006 8:32:19 PM
Cool dog, definitely do the flyer thing though, it look slike it's in far too good of health for it to be a stray/abandoned puppy.
12/14/2006 9:24:10 PM
It is a chocolate lab. My dog looks almost identical and is a purebreed chocolate. The white is not very rare because a pure chocolate coat is hard to maintain. It will be a great dog
12/14/2006 11:26:08 PM
haha would you like 3 female hamsters? I've still got them. I left my name and number with all the places that I called yesterday and they said they'd post it on their lost and found board. It would be really neat if she were mostly chocolate lab, a bunch of people have been telling me that she could be closer to purebred because those parkings are not uncommon (I didnt know that). Thanks guys!

Well no one claimed the puppy, and she is doing great with our other dog. (she is currently running around the living room chasing her tail). She has turned out to be a GREAT dog, still needs some housetraining but coming along extremely well. I was a bit worried at first that my other dog would be jealous, but she loves her! They play together all day long. We're still not completely sure on the breed, but are guessing chocolate lab mix with who knows. Thanks everyone!!

Not so sure about it being a chocolate lab mix. Could've been a black or yellow too. That one's a coin toss. Sounds/looks like there's some chessy in there for sure though. Cool pup regardless. You're gunna have your hands full, and soon. hahahaa.
