a definitive yes or no is the most helpful here
12/13/2006 4:30:09 PM
It looks like they're designed to, but I wouldn't count on it.

12/13/2006 4:48:43 PM
thats quite subjective of you. i happen to like those more than a garter belt
12/13/2006 4:50:27 PM
there is no way they'll stay up w/out a garter belt. Especially if you're gf (or boyfriend, whatever) has skinny legs.on second thought, they won't stay up if she (or he) has fat legs either....i don't think
12/13/2006 4:52:40 PM
its for my goat, but thanks for being openminded
12/13/2006 4:53:41 PM
ok, thread overissue mitigated
12/13/2006 4:56:23 PM
they should stay up just fine without garter beltsome thigh highs have a rubber type strip on the inside of the top so it sticks to the skin to help it stay upi'm also willing to bet the top is somewhat elastic which will also be useful in helping them stay upbut for what its worth the garter belt makes it hotter

I agree with Lauren. It's highly doubtful they'll stay up on their own.
12/13/2006 5:28:58 PM
yes... they do stay up by themselves. The entire lace area at the top of the stocking is elasticized for that exact purpose. Putting a garter belt with already embellished stockings is pretty stupid anyway (just my personal opinion). [Disclaimer- I worked at VS for ~ 2 mo. one christmas... plenty of guys ask the exact same question b/c they don't want to have to buy the garter belt... but as for how well they stay up I couldn't say. I've never worn them, but if they're anything like regular panty hose I bet they're a bitch, but nothing to really worry about. They may be slightly uncomfortable, but they aren't going to fall down... they might slide a little-- but nothing a tug won't fix ]

I have a pair of VS thigh highs, yes they stay up with the elastic and a rubberish lining around them...but they only worked the first two times or so that I wore them...I was at work one day and wore them under pants (all my actual pantyhose had runs in them) and about the middle of the day they started falling down and wouldnt stay up.but I had worn them before for a significant amount of time and they stayed up.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 6:05 PM. look ladies, lets be honestyoure not wearing these more than an hour tops if used correctly
12/13/2006 6:06:57 PM
I'm going with a resounding NO on this issue.stockings are intended to be held up w/ a garter beltthigh-highs have the elasticized top and perhaps that thin gummy strip to keep them in place.

These aren't exactly high-end so you can only count on them to stay up and where they're supposed to be for a few uses, over time they'll probably begin to lose their elasticity and whatever else is built in. Especially if they're stretched (for larger legs) or not washed properly. Either way, just buy the whole set. Since it's merchandised together, the producer is most likely trying to encourage the consumer to buy the entire set, so any complaints that they don't stay up like they're supposed to is just a function of not using it with the garter like it was designed for.
12/13/2006 9:26:34 PM
They will not stay up unless they have sticky stuff at the top...and even then, they don't work well. Getting a garter belt is the best bet...then she'll also not have to jack them way up making her legs look fat.
