i built a new computer back in October and my old computer with this motherboard has been sitting off to the side. i decided to rebuild this computer and give it as a gift for Christmas. i cleaned out the dust and hooked everything up and when i turned it on i got a horrific squealing noise. i unplugged as much as i could to isolate where it was coming from but i had no luck. what do i do?? this never happened before in all 3 years of using this setup!and yes i googled but didnt have much luck. btw, mobo is Asus K8V-SE Deluxe.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 10:30 AM. when i installed a new power supply i could hear a really high pitch low volume noise from my computer. Very few of my friends could hear it but i did and it was annoying. Luckily I got use to it. But in your case most likely a fan but could be power supply.[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 10:39 AM. Reason : .]

If you have unplugged most everything then it is probably the fan cooling the power supply.

also check the case fan, video card and processor fans (if you have them)i cant of anything else this could be besides a fan.

it is definitely an electrical squeal..my roommate just listened to it and said it's electrical, which i thought it was too. i already tried another PSU with no luck.

I've heard electronics hum but never squeal. What's the difference between a mechanical and electrical squeal? Just curious.

ok well i figured it out..it was the video card for some reason. i took it out and it made no squeal; weird thing is everything was hooked up fine to begin with. but i went ahead and took it out completely, used a can of air on it and put it back in and plugged it up and voila, no issues. thanks for the help guys.

I wish my video card could be quieted with a can of air. Thing runs as loud as a box fan on low sometimes (normal).
