i wonder how much he will really garner with free operations and cheaper heating oil... b/c as far as i know patriotic feelings run pretty deep in the US and even with a vile president, someone calling our president the devil nullifies all his goodwill.

of course, this article was published before he said that...

chavez reminds me of the loser running for hs class president.yeah, he tries to win support by giving out crap in the hallways and by pointing out the faults of the cool kids, but hes never going to be one of the cool kids - which is all that he really wants.

If the world was TWW, Chavez would be Joshnumbers

Personally, I don't care. If he wants to waste his nation's national resources fighting American poverty instead of Venezuelan policy, more power to him.
12/12/2006 2:49:31 PM
he should sell all his oil to the US and give all the money to his citizens...seems like an easy "get rich quick" scheme

He has the people of Venezuela convinced that the US is going to invade. He doesn't need to fight poverty to be popular, he just has to keep nationalism high and blame everything else on america. Now he's just taking his popularity campaign overseas.

See, this is my biggest aggravation with Hugo Chavez. If the United States just left him alone and ignored him, he's regime would probably implode since he's doing a mediocre job at best making real sustainable change in Venezuela. The fact that we actually poke him every now and then only feeds his propaganda machine, reinforcing his conspiracy theories of American invasion.Though honestly, I can't blame him for being so jumpy. On one hand, if he's rational, he would know that the United States is in no position to invade Venezuela even if we wanted to. On the flip side, since that coup a few years ago, I'm sure he's just gone paranoid with regards to the United States.I say let him waste his money and then have to answer for it when people start asking questions of where those billions went.

He's doing the same thing that arab totalitarians have been doing for years.Blame everything bad on America, then act like you are standing up to the great satan.
12/12/2006 4:02:19 PM
^^ Wait, how are we poking him? Last I checked America has not done anything but say "that guy, not cool."
12/12/2006 10:39:24 PM
We may well have backed that 2002 coup attempt against him.
12/12/2006 10:47:47 PM
"may have"...
12/12/2006 11:04:58 PM
^^ Oh, really? Well, it wouldn't be without precedent, but I don't think in this case we cared enough. On the other hand, the people that did lead the coup had very good reasons of their own to do so.
12/12/2006 11:21:08 PM
^^ If people ever ask why the US hasn't invaded he'll explain that it was because of his grandstanding and building international support for Venezuela.
