I'm looking at a buying a '03 Jeep Liberty. It has ~55,K miles on it now. How long do Jeeps last in general before they fall apart? Are they as long-lasting as a Toyota or a Honda, or should I expect it to have problems once it reaches 100K?
12/10/2006 1:26:17 AM
not sure about the last 5 years, but the old 4.0's run forever
12/10/2006 2:25:00 AM
i hear they fry electrical.
12/10/2006 3:05:32 AM
about 56,000 miles
12/10/2006 8:53:26 AM
Yeah, the older ones lasted forever and a day. We had to replace the rear transmission in mine, but nothing else major. It was well over 100,000 miles. Why do you think you see so many old Cherokees on the road?brought to you by Lutra.
12/10/2006 9:12:23 AM
I'm surprised its lasted this long.
12/10/2006 10:33:50 AM
They last as long as you put money into them
12/10/2006 12:20:34 PM
Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!!!
12/10/2006 12:40:27 PM
what can brown do for you?
12/10/2006 12:48:06 PM
^^^^^ rear transmission?you mean the transfer case, or do you mean the rear diff?or do you mean the transmission (particularly the AX-5 manual transmission in 4cyl jeeps)?[Edited on December 10, 2006 at 12:52 PM. Reason : ^^^^^]
12/10/2006 12:52:36 PM
depends on how well you take care of it

mine has been sitting in one place since last winter and still cranks up first try when i go start it every few weeks
12/10/2006 3:36:04 PM
My '94 Grand Cherokee with 190,000 miles ran like a champ until I plowed into a tractor at 55 miles per hour. Now it doesn't run.
12/10/2006 3:45:23 PM
I had a 94 with the 4.0 with over 220k on it ran fine till the tranny went in it and the body fell apart.
12/10/2006 4:07:53 PM
transmission and electrical problems are the biggest concerns.
12/10/2006 5:10:19 PM
is the liberty really a "jeep" or is it just a 4wd chrysler that they figured would sell a couple more units with a jeep nameplate?
12/10/2006 5:35:05 PM
^ took my liberty through the dunes past stuck Land Rovers and other Jeeps...I'll say it can hold its own.
12/10/2006 5:56:47 PM
^ doesnt say much, i have taken a chrysler minivan on the beach before and it did fine, its more about the driver than the vehicle, and yes, my dad has damn near gotten my truck stuck in a field before and i managed to drive it right out
12/10/2006 6:00:02 PM
until you roll them.

they on the way to the reservation
12/10/2006 8:57:04 PM
They had one line of jeeps that included a tent, so when you broke down, you had somewhere to stay.
12/10/2006 9:16:53 PM
^hahaha
12/10/2006 9:23:22 PM
long enough to break down in the middle of nowhere
12/10/2006 9:26:44 PM
their stock axles suck shit. skinny little things
12/10/2006 10:47:12 PM
^not all of them do
12/11/2006 12:18:50 AM
cherokee's are teh suck arent they early 90's and on. have like dana 30's?
12/11/2006 12:44:24 AM
Ive got a 96 cherokee 4.0 with 196k on it, the only things wrong so far are: water pump replaced at 133k, neutral safety switch(common), and right now Ive got a phantom electrical problem that is draining batteries like a motherfucker (3 completely dead in 1 week).
12/11/2006 12:53:50 AM
cherokee's aren't that bad. other than being a unibody, they have the stronger high pinion 30 in the front usually and a majority of them had the 8.25 chrysler axle in the back which isn't bad at all.

^awesome
12/11/2006 3:51:47 PM
i would buy a land rover over a jeep in the luxury models but a D90 just isn't worth it in comparison to a rubicon.

12/11/2006 4:30:09 PM
^lol.
12/11/2006 4:44:51 PM
i blew out my 35 w/ a tired ass 4 cyl. and 33's. granted i'd never been nice to it, but nonetheless it went boom
12/11/2006 5:04:30 PM
Everyone I've known with a Cherokee has had their tranny shit the bed. So I wouldn't recommend those.
12/11/2006 5:07:26 PM
auto or manual? neither are very bad transmissions unless you get the older peugot one
12/11/2006 5:16:29 PM
i'd getta jeep. but it'd have to look different than the rest. which would be hard bc almost everything has been done to 'em i'd love to pickup one of those cherokee pickups i saw on in cary a while back it was mintish lookin. not rusty at all mmm
12/11/2006 5:21:05 PM
^that would be an comanche (mj) not a lot of people have them, they're sweet trucks i want a scout
