I'm confused....Everyone says this man is terrible and hard, but his grade distribution report says otherwise. Shed some light on this one because I have him next semester...
12/6/2006 3:38:07 PM
when are the grade distribution reports from? When I had him (I believe last Spring...maybe Fall) he actually said the first day "I'm sure some of you have heard I'm an asshole, so I'm going to try and fix that"I liked him just fine...he had assholish moments and sometimes the questions on his tests were really hard, but overall it wasn't that bad

When i had him, he took the old test questions and changed a word in them...I remember thinking, "wow, i wish i would have re-read ALL the notes"

The distribution reports I looked at are from Just last semester and the one before that....That's pretty cool that he recognized his faults and tried to make an effort to fix them. I hope he'll continue to do that..you folks this semester...how bad or good has Keen been?

II had him the first time he taught during a regular semester (non-summer). He was a pretty cool guy, if someone came up to him bitching about how they wanted an extra point or something he basically told them to fuck off and to leave him the fuck alone. The overachieving whiners hated him, but personally I liked seeing these people get so pissed off. I also had him for lab that semester and he did blow up on a few people for being complete morons, they got mad about it, but they def. deserved it. I liked the guy, his tests were challenging and were sometimes picky, for instance on one test he asked us to name some of the Glycolysis/TCA elements used in STEP _.... Looking back this was an easy question, but if you take this course before Genetics 411 and BCH 451 than it is going to be more difficult. In my opinion, if you are not a MB major, then take GN 411 and BCH 451 then go back and take MB 351, MB 351 will be a breeze after these courses. MB 351 is pretty heavy with molecular biology, you are going to talk about microbial regulation (transcription/translation, sigma factors, lac and trp operons).. stuff that you also learn in more detail in GN.

I currently have him this semester and his tests are pretty tough. They go far more in depth than his notes teach. The reason his grade distribution is not that bad is b/c he throws massive curves on his impossible tests to obtain a class average of 81 for each test. Im going to class tomorrow to see if he answers this, but is the final going to have essay and short answer or is it going to strickly be mutliple choice and true/false? Hopefully he'll answer it tomorrow. Peace

i thought keen was alright.. i honestly didn't see why people hated him and said he was the worst teacher ever... its a hard class and there's no way to make it easy, so i think alot of the people that say he awful are just used to having everything spoonfed and aren't willing to work for the grade.... i think i did kinda ok on the tests, but the curve def helps... the lab was fun, but i was in the honors section so i think we did different stuff than the regular people
12/8/2006 7:29:09 AM
awesome....i'm in honors too

Anyone happen to remember what the point adjustments were for the 3 tests?

i know there is not going to be an essay but does anyone know how many short answers there are going to be
12/12/2006 8:00:19 PM
Anyone who has had him before please HELP. Would you recommend memorizing the past 3 tests or is that a waste of time. Thanks!
12/12/2006 8:04:24 PM
Thanks begonias
12/12/2006 8:59:42 PM
thank god for his curves i had like a really low c and came out w/ a B-
12/13/2006 5:31:35 AM
^^^He said that he wasn't going to pull questions from the previous tests, so memorizing them would be a waste of time.
12/13/2006 9:44:22 AM
So there isn't going to be an essay at all.. not even for the new material??
12/14/2006 9:18:44 AM
No essay. Multiple choice and short answer. 70% new material, 30% old material. TOMORROW

Does anyone have the answers to the final exam he gave on August 9, 2006 for the second summer session. I have the exam but i think the answers on here that the retard circled who took the test are not all right.
12/14/2006 1:34:23 PM
I'm in the class this semester and have the final tomm. I heard from someone that took it already that there are only about five questions from old stuff, and most of it is new. I do not know how many questions total?
12/14/2006 2:12:37 PM
I don't know how many questions total either.. I guess that's what I get for not going to class the last 2 weeks. I heard that there will only be 5-10 questions on the old stuff also..hopefully some of them will be from old tests
12/14/2006 2:32:28 PM
Like i said i have the final exam from the second summer session this past summer and there are 74 multiple choice and 16 true/false. All the questions have an answer but i think some of them might be wrong. Damnit i dont want to study wrong answers. Does someone else have this exam that they could let me know the right answers? Probably not but i guess it doesnt hurt to ask.
12/14/2006 6:40:19 PM
one sure fire way to do shitty on an exam is to freak the fuck out and get stressed so your studying isnt as effective. Just study what you can and deal with what you get. You've seen 3 tests worth of his material, go from there and study whatever else you can.
12/14/2006 7:12:51 PM
jeas, that was a lot shorter than i thought it would be. I was out in like 30 mins.
12/15/2006 9:20:03 AM
2 questions:1) is he going to curve the final exam and make that the grade that can be your overall class grade?2) does he automatically give you the highest grade (either final exam only or all tests averaged) or do you have to suck him off first?
12/15/2006 9:31:30 AM
1) I'm assuming he curves the final the same way he did the previous tests2) I'm pretty sure he will just automatically give you the higher of the grades. Also, I think that if you completed the HW assignments that grade can replace any one of the first 3 exams also.
12/15/2006 9:36:38 AM
alright cool....that's what i thought he was gunna do
12/15/2006 9:43:15 AM
i actually heard that he doesnt curve the final... but that may be wrong
