...would anyone make an effort to go cheer for Navy in Charlotte for Navy's bowl game?I had no plans of going but if he is our next coach maybe I'll make the effort and cheer for him...Its hard not to like Navy anyway.

What a fucking tool. LOCK THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12/5/2006 2:45:07 PM
FIRE PAUL JOHNSONHIRE JIMBO FISHER
12/5/2006 2:45:58 PM
i agree, Jimbo is the better pick
12/5/2006 2:46:48 PM
How is Jimbo a better pick? A proven winning head coach vs. a very good assistant?
12/5/2006 2:47:52 PM
Why is this a bad thread? We aren't in a bowl, but our new coach could be.Id be down with going.
12/5/2006 2:49:29 PM
Paul Johnson won't be able to recruit near as well in the south like Jimbo will. Johnson is not near as animated Jimbo. and Navy doesn't even avg 60 passing yards a game.
12/5/2006 2:55:36 PM
thats because they run an option offense
12/5/2006 2:56:13 PM
i have no idea who Paul Johnson is I have no idea what Butch Davis isI hear that Paul Johnson has coaching abilityI hear Butch Davis has recruiting abilityChuck Amato had recruiting abilityChuck Amato did not have coaching ability
12/5/2006 2:57:32 PM
Butch has both abilities
12/5/2006 2:59:05 PM
I just don't know about Davis though. I've heard that he has a reputation for recruiting scum....
12/5/2006 2:59:51 PM
butch davis has never beat ecu

If Johnson can turn into TresselBRING THAT MOTHER FUCKA IN TODAYYYYYYYY
12/5/2006 3:09:22 PM
HIRE JIMBO...we need someone that can recruit against Butch...which he can, and seems like he runs a good offense too, and if he brings auburns DC, niiiice
12/5/2006 3:11:45 PM
too many ifs, I say we just need a good solid coach
12/5/2006 3:17:10 PM
If you want someone who can recruit then why did we just Fire CHuck?Recruiting is very overrated...take Wake for example...ACC Champs and they have crap talent at almost every position. They are will coached and play as a team so they are a good team.Paul Johnson can coach...Jimbo can recruit (no one knows if he can coach) We are hiring a head COACH not head recruiter.

^^ winnar!/recruiting argument
12/5/2006 3:28:50 PM
If you win, you'll get recruitsThat doesn't always work vice-versa
12/5/2006 3:31:51 PM
12/5/2006 3:34:20 PM
^ Our class was not in the top half of the ACC last year. I remember us being behind Duke and Wake in addition to pretty much everyone else at one point. I never saw the final rankings, but I know it wasn't anything to brag about.
12/5/2006 3:36:53 PM
yea, even unc had a shitload of in-state recruits who weren't 4 stars but they had strength in numbers...plus a couple of bigtime WRs that Bunting pulled out of his ass
12/5/2006 3:44:30 PM
the people who are crazy about jimbo fisher are people who believe that winning recruiting wars=winning titles.i guess you were happy with amato.
12/5/2006 3:45:16 PM
to properly end the title of this thread:"If we hire Paul Johnson"then we will all support him and realize that he probably is a better coach than Amato regardless of the recruits he pulls in.
12/5/2006 3:46:55 PM
^^ Some of the people that wanted Herb out.
12/5/2006 3:47:50 PM
Once again, yes i will be there and yes i will be wearing a shirt that says"I fucked Cathocutie"maybe on the back it will say "in the butt"
12/5/2006 3:50:12 PM
It is tough to say no to a HC (who is also a top OC)/ DC combo with Fisher...I am guessing it is assumed that PJ will bring in his current staff from Navy to NCSU?[Edited on December 5, 2006 at 3:52 PM. Reason : ^cathlocutie? isnt BC a jesuit school & not catholic?]

I think this thread asks a legitimate question, however if we did get Johnson, I would imagine it wouldn't be until after the Navy BC game, so it wouldn't really work out
12/5/2006 4:14:18 PM
i would think that we'd act sooner than later on PJ
12/5/2006 4:16:56 PM
per the espn article:

Cowher
12/5/2006 4:20:25 PM
in response to the initial question to the thread... HELL YES, I will go if we can get a few fans together and make a road-trip of it. Wearing all red, of course.
12/5/2006 4:23:13 PM
12/5/2006 4:26:46 PM
oh yeah...also Wake doesnt jump offsides or have false starts every other play
12/5/2006 4:44:59 PM
... i wont be happy with it
12/5/2006 5:18:20 PM
12/5/2006 5:20:13 PM
We more than likely are going to get Paul Johnson, just fucking deal with. His Navy team would beat the shit out of our Amato lead program this year, so atleast it is a step forward.
12/5/2006 5:33:39 PM
see... no one here thinks big, i hate that... they say ehh... paul johnson is better so... OK!?!?lets go 7-5 each year

i think everyone wants a return to rivers style footballjohnson is not the man to bring it
12/5/2006 5:53:27 PM
You can't possibly say that based on anything involving logic. The man is winning at Navy and we're a million years better in terms of talent and facilities.I'm pretty sure a man whose had the success Paul Johnson has had wouldn't mind changing his offense to suit his situation. He's not herb. This man has had HC success.
12/5/2006 5:56:37 PM
PJ was an OC at Hawaii and they did (and still do) pass the ball all the time. I'm pretty sure he would have our offense suit the players we have and could recruit.
12/5/2006 5:59:34 PM
Yes, PackPride did a good breakdown of PJ's Hawaii OC stats which I obviously won't post here but they were quite impressive.

I'll be happy with either coach.. at first I thought PJ had always used a triple-option offense.. and wasn't sure if that style of offense would work in the ACC.. but knowing that he has coached with pass-heavy offenses in the past that he may end up adapting his offense to what will work best with what talent he can get and what works best in the ACC.Although.. since PJ is known for his triple-option offense, we may have a difficult time recruiting WR and pocket passing QB's... which will hurt us if the option offense doesn't work and we have to make changes in order to win games and don't have the talent needed.[Edited on December 5, 2006 at 7:01 PM.
