thats like some whiffle ball shit right there
12/2/2006 7:09:51 PM
it better be some kind of nasty if it takes 51 million dollars just to talk to himboston could've invested that money into roger clemens for a year or two personally
12/2/2006 7:47:09 PM
they dont have to pay a penny if they dont sign him
12/2/2006 7:57:23 PM
good call on the wiffle ball shitthe late movement on some of those will give nightmares to a lot of major leaguers
12/2/2006 10:59:53 PM
i hope someone signs this guy
12/11/2006 6:29:56 AM
scott boras is like the drew rosenhaus of baseball. what a piece of shit
12/11/2006 8:33:09 AM
^ha no shit he is...he's demanding $15 million a year for this guy. I'm a huge sox fan, but fuck paying that much for an unproved commodity
12/11/2006 8:59:58 AM
^ but it's not as if the sox don't have the $texas, and it's not as if there's any penalty, other than the roster spot and money (i.e. no cap)
12/11/2006 10:51:14 AM
yes, but with other off-season acquisitions, $15M for this kid is just retarded. I think Theo knows it and won't bite. The only thing I'd like to see more than the Sox getting him for $8M a year and him being a success is the Yanks shelling out the $15M and have his rotator cuff blow.

Aside from a couple games in the WBC, who has he faced? Certainly not the talent on the lineups in the AL East. Shit, we see how much trouble NL pitchers have adjusting to the AL, how much might this guy have? Andy Pettite doesn't deserve Andy Pettite money, and neither does this guy. Boras needs to drop the bullshit and get this guy signed. He can't sign with another MLB team for 2 years if he doesn't sign with the sox, and Siebu would damn sure rather have $51.1 mil than him back. And is his mystery pitch just a screwball, basically?
12/11/2006 12:26:04 PM
the last time i checked, 'stuff' was not dependant upon the batterthis guy is moneyanyone GM who wouldn't fork over $16m is a fool--also
12/11/2006 12:30:44 PM
from what i heard on espn yesterday...if the sox dont sign him, he is going back to japanlike its either the sox or he goes back to japan...kinda sucks imo, cause i want to see how he does in the MLB[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 12:46 PM. Reason : ^i think the second part is actually right]
12/11/2006 12:46:10 PM
hahwith petitte getting $15 million, matsuzaka should get $22 million with incentives out of his ass
12/11/2006 12:49:32 PM
are the redsox owned by jews? i remember they were gonna get a-rod but like 10 million dollars of the salary didnt get it done...now they get some good ass dude but wont pay him more than someone like old ass andy petittititiie[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 12:53 PM. Reason : maybe the sox never wanted him, but rather didnt want the yankees to GET him???]
12/11/2006 12:52:34 PM
^^ Yeah, the Yanks pissed me of with Pettite. Zito was only going to be around $14-15M but with that deal he can legitimately claim $17M per.. fucking Steinbrenner.^ Yeah, they only have the second highest payroll in all of baseball. Definitely some cheap bastards.. MLB blocked Arod from going to the Red Sox over that $10M. ARod was all set to be fine with it...
12/11/2006 12:57:01 PM
He will be an unrestricted free agent in two years if he doesn't sign this year, so slight semantics there. And if "stuff" isn't dependent on the batter, how come so many NL pitchers struggle in the AL after changing leagues? This guy is unproven vs. major league talent, period, end of story.
12/11/2006 12:57:46 PM
I think he's saying that either the pitcher has talent or he doesn't, who he's pitching too shouldn't matter. AL pitchers have it harder because their talent is matched by AL batting talent, since there is a DH in the place of the pitcher. Lineups are more difficult... more difficult batting situations in general.
12/11/2006 12:59:51 PM
^^^i'm just going off what i hear on espn...i heard that the redsox didnt want to pay like 10 million of it so they didnt get himseems like its more of the red sox fault than mlb...mlb was just doing what they were supposed to[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Reason : .][Edited on December 11, 2006 at 1:01 PM. Reason : ^^biggest reason i want the sox to get him is to see him get lit up by the big leagues]
12/11/2006 1:00:32 PM
The negotiations aren't over yet. The two sides are just holding out on each other... why shouldn't they?
12/11/2006 1:01:47 PM
and why do you see all these japanese players jumping ship to the major leagues? oh wait, you see very few, because the talent level of the japanese leagues aren't close to that of the MLB. if he's been pitching against lesser talent and only amassing the stats he has, he's not worthy of making 17 mil a year.honestly, i think the guy has pedro like stuff, but thats from watching the wbc and a couple youtube videos, and i don't want the sox to over pay for him, 10-12 per should be fine
12/11/2006 1:03:36 PM

he's headed to boston with epstein and lucchino, looks to be a 6 year deal between 8-11 mil perhttp://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2696321

I see nothin on this guy, he has a nice screwball lookin pitch, but once some players get used to pickin that up, those 94 mph fastballs right down the pipe are gonna get jacked.....I hope the sox do waste money on him
12/13/2006 1:54:30 PM
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/12/13/matsuzaka.signs/index.html6 years, $52M with escalator clauses to $60M
12/13/2006 2:33:55 PM
I already posted this argument in another thread, but anyways:With this precedent, let's say that next year a similar player comes along that is also worth about $100 mill... what's to stop a team from bidding $90 and then attempting to negotiate a $10 mill contract?Basically this makes the sole purpose of the posting system to be about who thinks they can negotiate a smaller contract, or who simply wants to block the other teams from getting a player. You can't tell me the Yankees or Mets didn't believe him to be valued just as much as the Sox did.
12/13/2006 2:41:14 PM
^^^ thats just stupid/ignorant insight. of course a 94 mph fastball down the middle will be hit often. he has 4 quality pitches, and appears to be much similar to pedro with his fastball. as long as he continues mixing his pitches, as he has never had a season with an era above 4, there is no reason he shouldn't be fine, "gyroball" working or not[Edited on December 13, 2006 at 2:42 PM. From Sports Illustrated:Daisuke Matsuzaka has reached a deal with the Boston Red Sox for 6 years, $52 million, SI.com's Jon Heyman has learned. The deal contains escalator clauses that could bring it up to $60 million.Matsuzaka is en route to Boston with other Red Sox officials who traveled to Newport Beach, Calif., on Monday on Henry's plane and said they would return Wednesday with or without Matsuzaka. The team and Matsuzaka have a midnight Thursday EST deadline to reach an agreement. The Red Sox called a news conference for Wednesday afternoon to introduce shortstop Julio Lugo, who agreed to a $36 million, four-year deal last week. With the top Red Sox brass still en route, manager Terry Francona and assistant general manager Jed Hoyer were to attend that event.Boston bid $51.1 million last month for the right to negotiate with Matsuzaka. The Red Sox will pay that money to his Japanese team, the Seibu Lions, only if an agreement is reached.AWESOME LINK (Thanks to SOSH!) - You can track the flight of John Henry's plane by clicking this link HERE
12/13/2006 2:57:35 PM
Thing is, he's not worth $100M right now. He hasn't pitched yet in the MLB. This could be a huge waste of money. Just because Boras says he is worth $100M doesn't make it so. If people could just say shit and have it be true, we would have found WMD's in Iraq.
12/13/2006 2:58:11 PM
it would be funny if he failed his physical

12/13/2006 3:00:09 PM
I don't think this guy is worth this, buuuuuuuut, Scott Boras can suck my !@#$!!!
12/13/2006 3:00:12 PM
this guy is worth every penny
12/13/2006 3:04:03 PM
Look, my point is this. The Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Mets and whoever else bid all knew the guy was worth about a 5-6 year $100 mill contract. However, they all bid around $30 mill or so, nowhere close to what the Red Sox put up. So what the bidding came down to, was that the Red Sox hoped that he would take a lot less money than he was worth simply because they took all other options away from him (he really wants to play in the US). That undermines the point of the posting process.
12/13/2006 3:06:09 PM
the posting process is fucked up in a lot of wayseveryone already knows thisshut up
12/13/2006 3:07:27 PM
Alright, now we are getting somewhere. So now that we know it's fucked up, you have to blame the Sox for exploiting it, just as someone blames the Yankees for exploiting the salary system.Boras isn't the asshole here.Or maybe you just don't feel like talking about this in your precious thread. So yes, his shit is spectacular, he'll be a great MLB pitcher, I'd love to see him throw a gyroball, and he's worth far more than he's getting payed for.
12/13/2006 3:11:27 PM
If Adam Eaton is worth 8Mil a year & Gil Meche 11M a year...Matsu is a steal at 17Mil a year
