i posted a wanted ad on craigslist about wanting a bulldog. I got a few replies but this one really interested me to begin with. here is the first email

Quote :
"Good day, hopefully still out for a bull dog , well Just born a litter of nine beautiful 14 weeks Old English Bullies. We have for adoption 4 females and 5 males. Will be ready for new homes on or around the 20th of December .Adoption fee is $___(left out on purpose by me JT3) with shipping inclusive. Our bulls are breed for looks, health, and tempermant. Take a look, I am sure you will find them to be adorable.
So if interested in having one of them as house pet, r feel free to contact or mail us for more details and individual lovely pictures.
Below in the attachment are some lovely pics of them some few weeks after birth, and one female and male litters, hope you will enjoy them and tell us the sex will like to have.
Thanks and hoping to read from you asap.

So I wrote him back asking about the dogs and the location in case pickup would be easier than a stressful flight and what colors/genders were left

he replies

Quote :

So if all will bbe okey by you, reply asap for any futher details.
Thanks and kind regards
Marckelly."

So this is where I started to get weirded out...I was like hmm theres alot of stuff misspelled here and it reminds me of those 'you have won a lottery in Egypt' type emails u get

anyways I replied back with

Quote :
"How many are left to chose from? I'd like to be able to have a selection to chose from be it with pictures or however we may arrange that. Also is there a number I could call to talk to you directly, I know the internet is such an easy way but I like to call to make sure there is nothing sketchy...that's just how I am. I'm sure you wouldn't be trying to scam me but you never know in this day and age what kind of people there are.

Basically any way to make sure its safe, secure, and a real transaction would be appreciated.

any pics of the group to select from though?"

finally the last email i get from him is
Quote :
"Well there are 5 litters left okey, but 3 have already been booked already, cos we have already recieved a deposite from other costomers and we are now planing to ship them okey.So at moment we have 2 bullies left okey, the pictures sent to you were those of the male bully left , hope you enjoyed them.
Here is my number; okey +2375074984, you can call me any time you wish okey.Well as concern any security measures that can be taken, i will first of all like to put every thing on trust okey, and secondly i will put my Breed licience at your disposal, besides i will give you my Social Security number.
So you dont have to worry about any thing , cos this puppy has all necessary. documents.
Thanks and hope to read from you asap.

So i am on the verge of quitting this conversation as it sounds kinda sketch but its a HELL of an offer on the dog...the guy did leave his number though which I figured if it was a scam at that point he would give up...

what do you think and what should I do? Its a GREAT deal on the dog but seems a little too good to be true.

yes, fishy. there are lots of puppy scams and the like on CL. Even if it weren't for all the rest, the backpedalling and the willingness to give you "his" SSN would be tipoffs as you prob already know.

Well, when you DO get a bulldog, make sure to set up a large health fund for it. Maybe get pet insurance.

That's fucking sketch homes.

I got bulldog I grabbed from craigslist. But that was an adoption for a 6 year old english bulldog from a grandmother who was about to have grandkids and couldn't take care of both. Not some prince from Cameroon that is willing to give you his family's fortune or however the scam goes.

If you are seriously willing on driving places for a bulldog, I suggest Petfinder.com. I looked there once and a while and I almost got a young bulldog from Raleigh, but there were like 50 other applicants. IF you REALLY want a bulldog, adopting on that website from Florida or the Midwest might be a better opportunity than, I dunno, a country in Africa.

Check it out, you might be surprised.

if you have to ask maybe you should rethink the whole being responsible for an animal thing

I tried to sell a tractor on WRAL and got something along the lines of that, from some Nigeria company - they sent me fake money orders though, which looked so freaking real (almost got me arrested, the bank called the police) - watch what you sell or buy online, its freaking crazy

Let me know when and if you find a good one, because I am interested as well.

I wanted one terribly, and then gave up once I did research into price and medical costs, and now Rob & Big has me wanting one again.

I did find this website.

http://www.pop-n-sonbulldogs.com/purchase.htm

which looks cool because its local, but it looks like they only do mixed breeds. Plus the condition of some of those look less than "happy" at least to my untrained eye.

Normally, I really dislike statements like

But in this instance...he's right.

i thought everyone on the internet knew better than to fuck with nigerian people. especially when they offer to pay for something with check or money order.

wow, no offense, but i just cant believe that people are STILL so fucking clueless this many years later

^^ Well, I figured it was a scam from the start but after I received 2 letters from people in the US, a few phone calls, and the money orders (that looked so freaking real, just missing the watermark) - i figured, hey why not see if they are real - i figured they weren't, but I just wanted to check anyway - so I went to the bank and said, hey I think these are fake because they were sent through the mail from a weird company but I want to check anyway, and I wanted to know if anything could be done about it if they were fake (considering the fact that I had the return address, which was probably fake also) - the bank then thought I had made the money orders and called the police

Why is that Pop and son breeding mixed breeds? That is soooo stupid to me There are plenty of mixed breeds in the shelters. Urghhh. Looks like backyard breeder/puppy mill to me. Boxer, bull dog, boston terrier. He is not looking to improve the breed.

^No, maybe he's looking to create another popular mutt breed like the puggle or labradoodle.

Also, a lot of people breed bulldog mixes for people who want a bulldog, but not the horrendous health problems. I say it's perfectly legit.
