between Lee "Clampett" Fowler being a total idiot and messing things up repeatedly

Annabelle not doing her job, nor is the rest of the SID

the wake forest wannabe t-shirts

and not letting the fans actually give chuck a final farewell before he left our school

I've had enough, and it's gonna hurt to cut that check thats due to the WPC this time

but I'll still be at every game, cheering, and pulling for NCSU

this school is capable of better and the fans deserve better

You can't really claim lee fowler has messed this one up yet. We are all of 5 days into the coaching search.

When did we get tie dyed shirts?

How backwards would it be to give chuck a farewell as we kicked his ass out the door? I like and appreciate what he did for us as much as anyone... but that is seriously a bad idea.

I thanked him for coming here almost every time I saw him

on that note, I feel especialy bad for Duke football players, they put some much time and effort only to have their stadium fill up with the fans from whatever team they are playing, while the geeks from NJ camp outside of Cameron(100' away from wallace wade) for tickets to see duke play bball

^ has nothing to do with that, the department keeps fucking up while we fall further and further behind

when we were the third most profitable basketball program in the ncaa tournament last year (even during a year when people were calling for herbs head), id have to say we are far from falling behind in the grand scheme of things.

id say that our fans are the biggest problem with our athletics....not the leadership.

He has already taken the first step to screwing up the search:

Quote :
"Fowler has said he will not discuss candidates. He said he has talked with Chuck Neinas, a Colorado-based headhunter who helped North Carolina hire Butch Davis, about the search but said there was no contract with Neinas."

yeah, some of our fans suck

but our SID is horrible, our marketing and PR is horrible

we're capable of better, but no one strives for it

I grew up a state fan, I was going to games at reynolds and CFS as an infant, I've seen how much is changed, and we've gone uphill... but we are capable of being so much more

that just means that our university is pumping out some high income alumni, not that we are heading in the right direction with the money they kick back.

maybe we are pumping out high income alumni, but those alumni are also contributing back to the school. just as its been suggested, when alumni arent happy, they have the power to cut their contributions...they obviously aren't doing that.

i honestly believe that the people that truely think our program is heading down the shitter are in the minority....unfortunately, due to the ease of getting your message out these days (ie the internet) they just make the rest of us look bad.

Whoa whoa whoa. I don't feel bad at all for someone that is getting a free ride to Duke U. What percentage of those kids know exactly what they are getting into when they decide to play for Duke? I mean, if you were a really smart kid but a bottom of the barrel D1 athelete with no shot at going to any real football school, are you going to feel sorry for yourself that you get a quality Duke education? I think not.

i agree. lee fowler fucked up that basketball coach search hardcore, and we had a terrible season at football, but people are willing to renounce their alma mater over this? it's getting out of hand, we're in a bit of a down, but it's not worth throwing ncsu under the bus over.

i know people are mad about the tailgate time, too, but it's only been one season, and they know everyone is upset. let's wait and see how it pans out, yeah?

so basically, calm down everyone, it's not the end of our athletics department.

Exactly. The sooner people realize that college athletics is about the bottom line ($$$$$) to athletic departments the better we'll all be. If the programs are profitable that $$$ goes back into the programs and that is exactly what has happened under Fowler. I had a few problems with the way he handled the basketball search but I also understand that I'm small time when looking at the bottom line (though I do contribute to the Wolfpack Club)...

Quote :

Based on what? They can't go flipping out everytime someone does something that you guys PERCEIVE as disrespecting the university. I see that people get pissed at the PR people when ESPN commentators say something they don't agree with (which does have a bit of truth in it truth be told). Well guess what? ESPN pays a hell of a lot of money to the ACC for 'the right' to say those kind of things. I highly doubt they'd appreciate our SID or PR department making a big deal out of it. You just grin and move on... something a lot of our fans seem unable to do..

^^again, my opinion, but i really believe that the vocal minority of fans screwed up the basketball search more then lee fowler. its clear that there are vocal fans here that believe their opinion should be heard (see this thread). is a coach really going to want to deal with that kind of environment? an environment where the vocal minority will drop you on the dime? believe it or not, our fans do have a bad rep.....maybe you don't see if it you live in the raleigh bubble, but i dont anymore, and its a lot more obvious from the outside looking in.

am i saying that fowler did a great job? no, but i don't think it was him and him alone that caused the problems we saw.

In what respect? How do you propose doing a better job? I'm just curious as to what specific things you think they could do better.

In 2005 we were 31st in merchandising sales with no real national success at any revenue sport in over 20 years. Ahead of schools with national championships such as Maryland, UConn, Syracuse, etc.. also keep in mind that we fight IN STATE with 3 other major programs..

As someone from CT, pretty much everyone in the state has UConn stuff already and those who didn't bought everything up in 2004 with the dual NCs. I imagine 2004 they were a lot higher..

you and other people that haven't grown up with it don't get it

it's not a bad thing...

i don't really expect you to

I've grown up around NCSU and have seen it's ups and downs

I'm not concerned as much about sales because winning generates sales

but I'm concerned with the fact that we don't market our university the way we could

the fact is that we could do better with our image and product... some of yall are like, we'll were mediocre, thats good enough for me

I'm not trying to be a dick and I certainly think we deserve, as fans, the very best. However, I'd like to hear the specific things you think we are doing wrong or lacking in and some specific ideas on how to improve them. I mean no school has a national marketing campaign or something along those lines so that isn't feasible.

agreed. i have yet to see a well thought out argument for why the athletic department is so bad. ill i see is "lee is an idiot" and "annabelle is not doing her job" and "trust me, im a long time fan". i see no contrasting information which even explains what a well run athletic department should be like, or how we could do things differently.

you said you've "seen the ups and downs", well what was done so much better then that isnt being done now? how could we market the university?

what schools plaster themselves on tv, mags, and tv shows? im not sure what this would accomplish even if it did happen. what would you hope to gain from that, simply name recognition?

Quote :
"open up an eastbay catalog and tell me if you see ANY state stuff"

i dont look at eastbay, so i cant comment on this, but you just said "I'm not concerned as much about sales", so why would you care if we had stuff in a catalog or not? if we are doing so well in merchandise sales (which we are) obviously our stuff is somewhere....just becuase its not in the one magazine you look at doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Quote :
"hell, just go to the mall and try to find decent state gear"

ok. i went to kinston, nc for thanksgiving with my fiance (thats where shes from). we went to the mall there and i saw state stuff all over the place. pretty much every place was 1/3 state 1/3 unc, and 1/3 ecu...i was actually surprised that i didnt really see much duke stuff.

again, i dont think your comments really hold much weight. they sound more like things YOU want, and not whats best for the school.

look, im trying to understand your point on view, but i honestly don't see anything backing up your claims.

our name IS out there. compared to duke and unc, not its not, but like you said, "winning generates sales". putting our name in magazines and on tv (like you suggested) is not going to give us our first choice in coaches every time....in fact, its going to make us look desperate.

i am NOT satisfied with mediocrity, and i never said i was.

believe it or not, i too have a job and i too cut checks to the WPC...so stop acting like you're doing anything different then i am.

you are just repeating the same baseless claims over and over again, and you simply haven't shown any credible examples to back them up. do you honestly expect your opinion to be taken into account when you can't even back up your claims?

until you can, theres really no point in this discussion.

Not introducing Sidney Lowe, the new head basketball coach at a football game was a blown PR move especially with basketball recruits in the stands.

"Wolfpack In The House" shit comes to mind.

Holding the Wake game during the State fair, and not scheduling more night games especially when we're not on TV or up against better games at the same time slot.

LTR's

Refering to our fans as greedy, lunatic, or just anything to describe them in a way that isnt normal.
(this does happen)

I'm with pwrstrkdf250. I disagree that our name is not out there though. I see enough NC State stuff and I know people from other places know our name, but its often not for the right reasons because we're terrible at PR.

oh yeah....

THE NEW BLOCK S LOGO LOOKS FUCKING STUPID

and someone better put a stop to this tye dye red and white shit. I've always thought wake looked absolutely retarded for using those shirts....plz dont make me associate myself with a school that promotes that.

Maybe its a personal preference, but the C is squashed and there's too much black in the middle of the C. I've talked to a bunch of people with the same opinion. The one shade darker red is ok.

wtf does marketing have to do with the SID office. the sid's job is to be a middle man between the media and the players and coaches and to set up interviews and conduct press conferences as well as the media guides and gopack.com. I agree the marketing department has gone down a little bit over the past 5 years or so but i htink that's because anne marie sales left as head of the marketing department and she is doing VERY WELL at the company she is working for now

wolfAApack-

if the main things that are contributing to our department "fucking up while we fall further and further behind" are the lack of introductions, logo styles, and conflicts with the state fair, then id say we are doing pretty damn good.

Why are you so hung up on Amato? What were they supposed to do, give a farewell parade to a guy who was fired? What sense would it make to give any kind of farewell to a fired coach that most of the fanbase wanted gone? Chuck got paid an obscene amount of money to be mediocre, and when he finally had a god-awful season, he was shown the door. We couldn't afford to invest in dead weight like him. If you love him so much, send him a card, but he was given MUCH more than enough by the fans already in the form of full stadiums, a chance to coach his alma mater, and one of the most bloated contracts for a coach who couldn't win. He got what he deserved.

Do you really think that many fans wanted to give Chuck a happy farewell after last weekend?

then dont make a thread about it. if you want to have a discussion about why you're fed up with the athletic department, then i would expect you to have valid reasons to back up your opinion. no one is just going to take you at your word because you say so.

if you dont, then just go post in chit chat.
