This happened yesterday and if it is posted already, I apologize. But Bob the Blade, local legendary Rock DJ who was forced to do afternoons at 106.1 The Rooster (country), quit on-air yesterday. No theatrics, just said that it wasn't for him because he is a rock guy. Played "The Song Is Over" by the Who and that was it.Bravo to Blade. Fuck the Rooster and fuck those that tried to change you.

11/29/2006 3:14:15 PM
I agree... fuck new country. He was actually off the air for awhile after the switchover, but had started back there a couple of weeks ago. I assume that was more to do with the fact that he was under contract to ClearChannel.Bob is a rock guy and he will only be happy doing rock. To my ears, he is the best rock DJ in this area bar none. Hopefully he goes across the street to 96 Rock.[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 3:19 PM. Reason : I like the twangy stuff]
11/29/2006 3:18:57 PM
I'd be down with thatbut I'd like to shoot the airplane that big & rich, cowboy troy, rascall flatts and all those housewife country stars fly in down with a stinger missile
11/29/2006 3:19:49 PM
HAHAHAHA.... "forced" to do afternoons... that makes me laugh... People who dont know what they are talking about make me laugh!! Look at me... Im a bitter former DJ... I hate everything!!

11/29/2006 3:30:30 PM
i like bob the blade. that dudes voice always got me ready for some fucking rock.
11/29/2006 3:33:25 PM
I hate it that apparently we have a need to have about 12 country stations on the radio. I'd be fine with just 1 or 2, and leave the other stations the way they are. The radio sucks enough already, we don't need to keep making it worse.
11/29/2006 3:33:46 PM
Im just saying that those facts are incorrect... he was not forced to do country. He was given a choice, and he chose to come back to RDU... There was no contract issue, there was nothing preventing him from walking away when it went country... Blade spent some time with the Rooster and just decided that it wasnt for him... He had nothing bad to say about the staff or the way that he was treated... In fact im pretty sure if you ask him, he would tell you that the new staff has been nothing but supportive of him... So to make it sound like he was "forced" into a bad position is rediculous and misinformed.
11/29/2006 3:37:44 PM
It's as if radio stations have some sort of goal to make money by playing what the masses want to hear.
11/29/2006 3:38:17 PM
crazy talk
11/29/2006 3:39:47 PM
Christ almighty, mr. literal! No one implied that he was led into the studio in chains!Blade has been a DJ longer than you have been alive! Most of that doing rock. Suddenly after all that time he is put into a position of a) do country on the 106.1 the cock or b) leave. He is/was under contract, he knew the people, he had a lot of stuff in place up there (endorsements, etc.) Plus, he is a lifer (thank god, because he is excellent at what he does). So yes, in a sense, he was "forced" into that role. CC is going to blow up the River, anyone with a brain sees that coming. Otherwise, he goes over there as it is the natural fit. He tried country and he left. Good for him.If you are who I think you are, then I would highly suggest that you get your T&R ready as well, because the day is coming when they blow it all out seeing as they aren't even listing jock names on the website. And you and I both know that v/t is where it is all going to end up for CC unless they sell the cluster.[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]

Blow up = to change formats. regardless of what the suits in control at CC Raleigh would have you believe there is no way they keep that station as a classic rock (or classic hits for men or whatever stupid name they are giving it.) If they were married to that format, they wouldn't have changed RDU and would have flipped the river to country. As it is, they are spending no money on it and it is a placeholder station. I would bet money that the format of that station is gone in the next 6-12 months (if that long)CC just got taken private and will be selling off about 450 stations (out of the nearly 1200 they currently own). Supposedly going to keep stations in just the top 100 markets, but I think most expect them to cut down to the top 75 and then selectively within the top 75 markets based on cluster performance.
11/29/2006 4:31:48 PM
I like country music. But fuck turning the best rock station into the 20th best country station.

fuck bob the blade. the questions of the day were trivial, idiotic, and unentertaining, and he laughed (that annoying "heh heh heh") at his own jokes alot which were not funny most of the time. absolutely the only thing good about his show was the 4:20 smoke break.that said i hated seeing our beloved RDU torn apart so i do like the way blade gave the rooster the "fuck you" that we all wish we could and went out with style.
