Im buying an 360 and but I dont know what to look for. I know they have different gig hard drives and all that jazz. Im not a big time gammer at all. I'll be playing it just when i have free time or get bored. What do you suggest buying. Also, im thinkin I want to buy wireless controllers. Someone mentioned buying some type of battery pack for it or something. Thanks in advance for your help.

buy the 400$ version. and instead of helping microsoft subsidize their system by purchasing their overpriced NiMH battery pack, go to walmart and get some rechargeable AAs and a charger.

I'd hold off 'til Q1 07 if I could:http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/31/microsoft-planning-xbox-360-price-cuts/

just to clarify things for youDON'T BUY$300: Core version - green boxBUY $400: Premium version - white box <-- comes with a wireless controller btw

if you are a casual gamer do NOT buy those game packs. buying rechargables isnt bad, but using regular batteries you'd have to probably play YEARS casually to break even with the packs.

thanks guys

Don't buy the core system. You will eventually end up buying the hard drive and other accessories later on. I made that mistake. Also, MS warranty does not cover the hard drive if bought separately from the system. Go for the step above the Core.

I might look into buying one next year if a pricecut does happen....just surprised that its even being mentioned since the PS3 already costs $200 more.Anyone here modded a 360 yet?

Here's a question...I'm holding off on getting a 360 until a price drop and until most of my x-box games are on the backwards compatibility list. How committed is MS in getting all games for the old xbox working? The official site says they will get them all working but that's a bunch of bull. So far it looks like they aren't that committed. Only about one in four of the games I own are on the current list and it doesn't look like the list is updated all that often. What are your thoughts on that subject?Edit: Ha, I thought you were going to Mexico here in a couple of weeks. Planning on getting in a good week of play then boxing it up for a few years?[Edited on November 30, 2006 at 2:07 PM. Reason : -]

^^ I haven't heard anything about modding them like the did with the xbox...maybe it's because i'm not in school anymore and may be out of the loop, but I haven't heard about it^ I don't think they care anymore. Why waste time making old games work when they can start releasing new games that require purchases on xbox-live marketplace to get the full experience? (which i'm pretty pissed about). Also, their biggest competition just released a console that also doesn't have full backwards compatability, so why rush?

I'm not their typical customer but the only reason I would buy a 360 is because my original xbox is starting to die on me. I would probably only end up buying one or two games for the 360 and just play my old collection. I figure I might as well get a 360 if I can play my games on it but it's starting to look like I'll just end up buying another x-box when mine finally dies. Can you still buy a factory sealed original x-box anywhere?Plus there is a big difference between the PS3 non compatible issues (200 out of 2000 don't work) and the 360 (200 out of 600 don't work). /made up numbers

you could probably buy a really cheap one at an ebgames or somethingunless you really want it to be brand spankin new

I don't care if it is new or not really, but I have never - not once - had a good experience with used or refurbished electronics.

I haven't tried it myself, so I can't defend either side there.I'm sure if you call around you can find them either at best buy or wal-mart or CC or somewhere

I modded a refurb xbox and it has never had a problem. Works better than my roomates lauch box.

ive gotten a used playstation and gamecube and both worked fine (alright i lied, the gc was broken when i got it, but they replaced it immediately).

Drovkin your Xboxlive marketplace is so factually incorrect at the moment that I'm wondering if you even know what an Xbox360 is.
