Ok losers, help me out here So my motherboard is an FIC AT31. It takes DDR memory. So far, all of my RAM is PC2100. I was under the impression, so correct me if I'm wrong, that if my machine takes DDR, it takes DDR. I ordered a 1GB stick of PC3200, though, and it isn't recognized. When it's in the machine with another chip, only the other chip is recognized. When it's in by itself, the machine doesn't even POST. It is recognized by CPU-Z, so I know that it's at least in there correctly, but no dice.SO, I returned it for a stick of pc2100 ddr266, which is exactly what my 512mb stick is, so it should work... but it doesn't. Again, no post with the new chip by itself and it's not recognized by the bios or windows when it's in with the other. CPU-Z sees it again, though. Does anyone have any ideas? Documentation on my mobo is scarce. Do I just have really bad luck here?

You have several problemsfirst and foremost, all the memory you are getting is going to be high density. Your board, being that its older than dirt and was pretty terrible even when it was new, probably doesn't support high density memory.Low density DDR will cost you an arm and a leg, if you can find it. You are going to be better off either at least trading up to an Nforce2 motherboard and swapping your components over, or going ahead and building a new machine.
