How hard would it be to weld or otherwise repair in place a cracked exhaust manifold on a civic?? and if imposible, what would be a reasonable quote to have one replaced?

depends on what kind of metal your manifold is made out of[Edited on November 24, 2006 at 6:42 PM. Reason : (how hard it would be to fix)]

welding a cast manifold is a temporary fix at best.

What year? I have a 01-03 exh mani from my old civic i will sell for $20, OEM.

it would be easiest to just get used one

It's a 00 civic, supposedly the exhaust manifold is also the catalytic convertor and attatched to two oxygen sensors that will likely break to replace it.This leads to $texas to fix it (at least at the dealership I was at getting a fair bit of routine maintenance done at) - because that means replacing the entire thing + possibly 2 sensors in addition and all the labor. nightkid - if you have an 00 instead of an 01 lying about, i'll be more than willing to take it off your hands.I'm going to do it if i have to, the car is worth keeping and otherwise in great condition mechanically (body wise not so much but ...well.. that's my fault). But i'd *greatly* prefer if it's able to be welded to do that or find someone who knows how to replace it with a used one.[Edited on November 25, 2006 at 12:46 PM. Reason : .]

^ thanks for the link but here's the issue-the repair for just the manifold which is in that auction- is $800.but it includes labor- that's warrantied. If i'm going to pay $200 for the part on ebay ($185 after ship), I still have to get someone knowledgable to deal with it- i'm not sure I'm saving all that much money buying a new one on ebay. But thanks for the link, if i find someone who can put it in that's both knowledgable and less than the dealership by enough to make it worth not having the warranty on the work- I'll use that.

i dont really have the time, but there are plenty of competant people on here that could handle swapping a manifold for much less than that

Wow, crappy place to put a cat. Way to go Honda.

by crappy you mean the best place to get it up to operating temperature to start catalyzing and cleaning the exhaust quickly? That's such a terrible idea.

^ yeah it's better than revving the thing up to 3000rpm with no oil pressure like my car does stock
