DLP SUCKS BECAUSE THEY IMPLEMENT IT WITH A COLOR WHEEL AND MOST HAVE CRAP VIEWING ANGLES (SEE CRT RPTV)LCD SUCKS BECAUSE IT HAS A CRAP VIEWING ANGLE (SEE DLP RPTV) AND POOR BLACK LEVELSPLASMA SUCKS BECAUSE IT USES TONS OF POWER AND IS AT RISK DUE TO BURN IN (PHOSPHORS SEE CRTRPTV)CRT SUCKS BECAUSE IT WEIGHS A TON AND IS HUGE; HAS CRAP VIEWING ANGLE (SEE DLP RPTV) ; ALSO IS AT RISK OF BURN IN (SEE PLASMA)MAKE A FLOW CHART!

11/23/2006 2:30:06 PM
if i ever somehow got a bunch of money to spend on a tv i'd prolly get a lcd or dlpsomething about plasma has always turned me off
11/23/2006 3:28:05 PM
11/23/2006 3:41:54 PM
hahahahayou dont want me buying a tv.its plasma, or crt
11/23/2006 3:42:38 PM
i'd pick a plasma over crt, just cause crt is too fucking big and heavy with the other shit out now a daysisnt plasma the one where you have to buy the liquid crystal stuff and refill it every couple of years?- thats why i said i'd pick lcd over a plasma
11/23/2006 3:44:09 PM
thats a common myth , no as they are rated at something absurd like 60,000 hours
11/23/2006 3:45:27 PM
haha thats like 7 years of 24 hours a dayyou can get the black friday deals online now...circuit city has a 50 inch plasma hd for 1500 after rebate
11/23/2006 3:50:35 PM
i'd buy an lcd....so you should buy that too
11/23/2006 4:33:37 PM
i work for a local electronics place (they are a national chain that has been around for over 100 years and have multiple departments if you need a hint) and these arguments are funny to observe. Continue........

cheerwhiner come over and ISF cal a couple of my televisions. Im sure you have the tools and training. Im also sure i pay better than a national electronics chain (been around 100 years!)[Edited on November 25, 2006 at 12:55 PM. Reason : what kind of sweet tvs did they have back in 1906]

Plasma has burn-in. Aside from that, it's really up to you... buy whichever one you think looks the best. Make sure you know how much you can afford, but don't be afraid to spend it. Nothing worse than buying a TV, and then wanting to upgrade.
11/25/2006 9:27:06 PM
Ive always been partial to plasma as far as how they look, but burn in is a big problem and annoying as hell as well, flip a coin?
11/25/2006 9:29:31 PM
I just bought a DLP and i couldnt be happier.
11/25/2006 10:23:43 PM
burn-in isn't really a problem for plasmas anymoreearlier generations, yes, but not current generations[Edited on November 25, 2006 at 10:37 PM. Reason : not anymore than CRTs at least]
11/25/2006 10:36:56 PM
I'd rather live with the fear of burn-in and my plasma, then have no fear of burn-in and a shitty DLP!
11/25/2006 11:06:32 PM
i bought the 50" toshiba (http://tinyurl.com/ykmqx3) and the tv stand (http://tinyurl.com/ymmefu) after camping out at best buy and good lord was it worth it. hd cable looks incredible and i don't even have an hdmi cable yet...hd dvd is amazing and gears of war is a completely different game after playing on an old 47" panasonic hd projection tv.plasma is teh w1nz
11/25/2006 11:23:23 PM
^I would at least run a dvd with some kind of break in patterns for the first 100-200 hours. Burn in is not a myth, but is often confused with image retention IR. In other words you would have to screw up on epic proportions to permantly etch something into the screen, but dont be alarmed if you see ESPN ghosting for 5 hours after a football game.
11/25/2006 11:50:47 PM
^where would i get one of those dvds?
11/25/2006 11:53:37 PM

sxrd?isn't that just lcd projection ?

11/26/2006 1:32:41 PM
Quinn: Thanks for the link man. I ran the dvd for about 4 hours earlier today to start breaking in my plasma and I'm watching the Davinci Code now, then back to what my girlfriend calls "the pretty color dvd."
11/26/2006 9:04:20 PM
SXRD stands for "Silicon Crystal Reflective Display" (SCRD...???) I used to work for Tweeter before starting my own home theater business, and listening to the Sony Rep explain this one was pretty entertaining...Honestly, if you get caught up in reading the specs and all the differences each manufacturer tells you "notice", you will never be happy with anything you buy. Fact of the matter is ANYTHING you buy is probably better than what you came from.-Markhttp://customwiredonline.com

i keep the standard cable stretched to avoid the black bars, but are the horizontal letterbox bars when watching a dvd any risk or burn-in? it may be a dumb question and i'm using the break-in dvd, but i was just wondering.
11/26/2006 10:26:37 PM
yep they are
11/26/2006 11:00:52 PM
to the people with plasmas...do you watch things on zoom or is burn in alleviated somewhat after the break in period? i love this tv and don't want to do anything to screw it up

i would assume that there are more "fixed images" in video games like a health bar or something similar...if that's way off, someone will correct me, but from what i've read...burn in is the only downside of video games and most high def games now are aware of that and don't have fixed images for too long.
11/27/2006 12:31:23 AM
ahhhh ok...good example
11/27/2006 12:41:07 AM
11/27/2006 12:58:20 AM
i've watched a few dvds not zoomed in and the rest either hd broadcasts or zoomed cable...i will avoid the vertical black bars at all costs, but i don't want to sacrifice dvd or hd-dvd quality...i'm gonna keep using that burn-in dvd overnight for a few nights...now watch my xbox die because of lots of use
11/27/2006 1:00:42 AM
It wont take too long to log 100-300 hours . The pretty color dvd is rather boring though.
11/27/2006 1:06:13 AM
yeah my gf is watching chris botti live on hdnet right now and the "mood colors" look friggin amazing...when i go to bed i'm putting the break-in dvd on and i'm gonna give the tv and the 360 a break while i'm at work, unless i hear that running the tv and 360 for 20 hours straight isn't a bad thing
11/27/2006 1:11:08 AM
man i wish i was all technological like yall
11/27/2006 1:15:09 AM
CRT projecter is still top dog
11/27/2006 1:15:30 AM
isn't there some kinda laser tv in the works?
11/27/2006 1:12:51 PM
^yephow does this tv stack up, you think? http://www.woot.com/
11/27/2006 2:58:52 PM
i hear woot.com is a very good site
11/27/2006 3:01:07 PM
i'm not worried about the site, i'm just wondering if that is a decent plasma monitor
11/27/2006 3:07:32 PM
Re: woot.com Sanyo plasmaIt doesn't have an HDMI input, although I'm not convinced that's the end of the world - component video tends to look more warm & natural. It's brightness leaves a little bit to be desired. A 1000:1 Contrast Ratio is nothing to brag about, especially on a plasma television. The silver bezel looks neat, but a TV with a black bezel will appear to be higher contrast, which is what everyone wants. For $899, I guess it wouldn't be the worst purchase you could make, but I would wait until your budget accommodates the standard price range of a plasma television. Standard prices (not the $1300 Panasonic deals on Black Friday - that doesn't happen all that often) will be $2000 or more for a 42", unless you purchase the panel online. Purchasing a plasma television online makes about as much sense as eating a bag of hair, in my opinion. I make a living off of selling plasma televisions, however, so I guess I'm a bit biased.-Mark

Again, since I make a living on selling products like plasma televisions and surround sound systems, I am of course biased on where I feel one should make such a purchase. The scenario that resellers like myself (I don't prefer to use the term "retailer", as I rarely sell anything for "retail" price...) get very tired of very quickly is when someone makes the online purchase and then expects us to come out, install it for nothing, calibrate it for nothing, and then when something is wrong with the tv, it must be our fault... Those are the people that I would like to see avoid buying the panels online - the ones that have no idea what they're buying. The ones that do know what they're buying are few and far between, and often don't call on a professional in the first place.-Markhttp://customwiredonline.com
