I am a relative n00b when it comes to HD, LCD, DLP, plasma, etc. and the different options/pricing that go with each.I have the opportunity to buy this model lightly used rear projection from a co-worker http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-46H84-46-Projection-HD-Ready/dp/B0001YI7ZKHe said "around $500-$600", but he doesn't really care and after talking with him a bit, I can probably get it from him for around $400.00 . Good deal? Should I wait until I can afford LCD or plasma?[Edited on November 22, 2006 at 11:44 AM. Reason : d]

not a bad price. doesnt have a tuner, which i dont care about, but is relatively standard nowadays. id read the reviews and decide what is right for you. a new dlp, lcd, etc will be more expensive but will likely have a tuner, be smaller, weigh a helluva lot less, and likely support 720p. your call.

What are you going to do with it? How many sources and what type are they?My Dad has an older toshiba and it looks fine. Of the two component inputs though only one if 1080i. The other is 480i/p only. It will display HDTV as all, but keep in mind of what you are trying to do with it.Personally I would wait on LCD or Plasma if this will get you by for a while. If you need DVI/HDMI then this won't work for you. Electronics and their prices are always a losing battle and even old HDTV's are a big step up from non HD sets.

yeah, i have a non HD set right now 27". I would like to get something bigger because we watch alot of DVDs. We also have Dish Network and I was considering upgrading to their HD package if I had an HD set. That is about it though. Nothing special. I have never really tried to be on the leading edge of technology.
