I'm kind of surprised Lotus let them do this, considering how they did in the last DARPA challenge.

I wonder though if all the teams this year are going to copy the winning strategy Stanford used last time.

^^it's very different this year. it's an urban setting, not offroad. it has to be able to navigative traffic circles, stoplights, etc

But, a visual mapping system would still be very capable and robust.

Why would they use such an expensive car when they KNOW they're going to wreck it repeatedly? It's silly.

maybe they would like to. But Stanford put like $4 million in that vehicle. A lot of teams don't have that kind of dough (ie our team that only spent like 55,000)
