Serious question: Does anyone still think Chuck Amato has what it takes to make us competitive in the ACC, or even be the best in the state of NC for that matter? I see a few people still holding on to the "we're a QB away!" line, but they seem to ignore the fact that we've been like that every year since Rivers left, and it's been 3 years.

I think we're seeing now more than ever that Rivers was our true coach from 2000 to 2003.

there are always a few idiots in the world

I predict there are 3 people that are willing to give him "next year" with a new QB and all that other crap that they think will make us good.

3 idiots, my prediction

it seems there are 3 types:

1. those who want him gone
2. those who want to give him one more year
3. those who will only accept cowher as a replacement, and seeing how that's not going to happen, accept amato as the hc for as long as possible until we can get him

only one is right, imo.

#1....

possibly #3 if and ONLY if we know for a fact that Cowher will come no later than 2008

seeing as that is about .0000000000000000001% likely......see #1

I just hate it for my brother... All the freakin' $$$ he gives to support the program, and this is the crap he has to watch year after year... He's loyal though and loves his alma mater.

i think there's more of a correlation between people who wanted to keep Herb and people who wanted to keep Jay Davis

i was a Herb supporter but am totally against Amato continuing to coach this team

Two reasons:

1. Herb did do a lot of winning while he was here, I mean we did make 5 straight NCAA tournaments and a sweet 16; it just wasn't enough winning for a good portion of the fanbase (even though IMO that is not why most people didn't like him)

2. Herb had control over his team at all times. It seems as though Amato has not had complete control over any team since he has been here. Herb's teams had discipline (maybe too much ). Chuck's have no discpline whatsoever.

The bottom line is this:

The difference between having talent and winning games is coaching.

We have all the talent needed to win the ACC and we lost to a Carolina team that was the worst they've ever been. Amato is NOT a great coach. I want the guy from Rutgers.

why? he just lost to Cincy and he proved himself in the big least?

he's got a recruiters dream in Jersey

WVU game them that game IMO

id rather hire that agent that UNC got to get Butch and go with who he says.

Do you even realize what you're saying there? You're saying that

1) either Cowher is more obtainable than someone like mike leach or pat hill.
2) or chuck is serioulsy better than those guys.

No coach in ACC history has done so little with so much. Put him at Duke with Duke players and Duke facilities, and he'd be as good as Ted Roof, maybe slightly better b/c of his defensive coaching (and that, as we've seen, was mostly great players).

Then why has Rutgers sucked so bad in the past?

^you could make the argument that UNC is doing about as little with as much as NCSU considering their recruiting has been very good the past couple of seasons.

oh wait, they fired their coach though and are doing something about it. Oh well.

"NC State: We heard the top boosters had dinner with the AD and said fire Chuck Amato on Monday and go after Bill Cowher with everything they got or they pull donations. Plus Cowher just bought some real estate there."

I wonder if that is reputable at all... not the cowher part because thats a longshot but the part about the top boosters pushing for chuck to be fired.

I have heard this numerous times the past few weeks: "I have a whole new respect for the ability and success of Bobby Bowden, because he won national titles with that dumbass Chuck Amato as his assistant head coach."

I honestly have to say, I agree.

I don't really think Chuck is "the man" but I odn't know who else we could get and have just sort of realized the fact that we are NC State and will continue to screw up as long as Lee Fowler is the AD.

So you're syaing you're a defeatist that is too dumb to realize that the difficult task would be finding a coach that is WORSE than Amato?

I never really was on the Chuck bandwagon, and Ive made it well known that I wanted Herb here. Herb was fucking winning in and finishing top 4 in the ACC and Chuck's best is a 4th place finish. One more thing, a lot of people said well Ill see what Herb can do when he losses Hodge, we finished 22-10 and 4th place.
