Until recently I used Windows Media Player's Media Guide to search for songs and it would find a lot of songs that you could play/download that were hosted on various places on the internet......Most of the media returned was not protected so you could just download it. It worked this way for years now, but in the past few weeks I've noticed that it just returns a bunch of retarded internet sites and links that are by and large not even media files. Anybody else notice this, know any ways around it? It pisses me off because a lot of the time I could find all the music I was looking for without even using p2p stuff like Limewire that is a little easier to get in trouble with....

Never used that specific product, but it doesn't surprise me that they "fixed" a potential legal liability against them. P2P is kinda like sex, it can be risky every time you do it, or almost risk-free every time if you protect yourself. I don't know if anybody will give specifics on here, as that'll be condoning illegal activity. Use Google and good luck.

Sure, sure, I am not unfamiliar with such things as you speak, was just hoping the old search wasn't dead, because it was so damn easy..........But yeah I had wondered why a company like Microsoft would allow that to stand given the potential legal troubles. (but I guess they could have always said that since it was just a search feature that gathered up available media, the real culprits were the ones that hosted these files on the internet...) I think Lycos Music had something similar years ago but it got offed a long time ago.
