looking on reuters website, you can view shares trading of the executives of various companies

of a particular company i am looking at it lists the executive, the date, number of shares, etc

in the column listed "type" it says "gift"

does this mean that they were given this number of shares as a gift from the company as part of their compensation package? or....?

"Gift" probably refers to stock gifts. The company could be using them to reduce their tax burden by increasing deductions for gifts of stocks and securities. In a way, stock gifts like charitable contributions.

hmm...didnt think about it from that angle....i was just thinking that rather than have the increased salary, the shares could be part of the compensation package for the year...

oh well, thanks
