Got the album via Usenet. Kinda darker than their previous work.[Edited on November 14, 2006 at 11:51 AM. Reason : .]

yeah it's definitely their best stuff yet in my opinionthe lyrics are really good in several of the songsWell Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die,I'm a little bit scared of what comes afterDo I get the gold chariot?Do I float through the ceiling?Do I divide and fall apart?Cause my pride is too sly to hold back all my darkAnd the ship went down in sight of landAnd at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?
11/14/2006 12:15:32 PM
degausser is pretty good. not sure how i feel about the rest yet.
11/14/2006 12:43:38 PM

11/14/2006 4:03:58 PM

11/14/2006 10:46:29 PM
damn i love this cd. esp jesus christ
11/15/2006 12:04:27 AM
i'm startin to feel it more, except for the last two tracks. it's no deja entendu, but it's pretty catchy shit.

So they say,They say in heavenThere's no husbands and wivesOn the day that I go upThey'll be completely outOf their forgiveness suppliesAnd I cant use the telephoneTo tell you that I'm dead and goneSo you won't know[Edited on November 15, 2006 at 9:21 AM. Reason : ]

THATS DEEP

11/15/2006 11:30:31 AM
yeah, the lyrics really suck, especially compared to their earlier shit.
11/15/2006 11:37:25 AM
deja is still their best
11/15/2006 12:15:55 PM
i like this one better than deja entendunothin against deja entendu, i just like this one more
11/15/2006 12:28:13 PM
^fuck you! We will fight til the death over your opinion!sorry, just thought it was funny how nice you were about stating your opinion
11/15/2006 12:36:24 PM
as much as i like mellow/chill verses leading into a harder chorus, i think it's done too much on this cd. i'm starting to feel it more as i listen to it, but it's no your favorite weapon, although...nothing will ever be quite as good.
11/15/2006 1:03:44 PM
^I think I rank this one on about the same level as favorite weapon for my favorite cd's of theirs. Deja, however, is one of my favorite CD's of all time. In my top 5
11/15/2006 3:03:01 PM
good lyrics for jesus christ, didnt like how they delivered it though
11/15/2006 3:22:21 PM
after listening to deja entendu, i can hardly believe this is the same band.hope you come down with something they can't diagnoseor don't have the cure for
11/15/2006 3:29:54 PM
^they need to bring back the violent lyrics, like in YFWHave another drink and drive yourself home.I hope there's ice on all the roads. And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt, and again when your head goes through the windshield.
11/15/2006 4:17:21 PM
only to song #3, but it's awesome
11/15/2006 5:08:30 PM
i disagree about these lyrics sucking. it's a different style than the older lyrics to an extent, but some of these lyrics are really good. and i do really like the mellow/chill verses leading into a harder chorus a lot. i especially love the final minutes of "limousine" and the buildup they have there. it's pretty cool.[Edited on November 15, 2006 at 6:21 PM. I'll take Brand New any way I can get them. They have changed a lot over the years. Every album is different enough. Better than some bands that have the same sound every album every song. My favorite Brand New song is still Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
11/16/2006 1:51:26 AM
yeah thats a good oneone of my favorites has always been "okay i believe you, but my tommy gun don't"
11/16/2006 2:53:28 AM
^ yep, that song is great

If anyone was at their show last night, he looked terrible. Knocked over a couple mic stands, hit his mic with he face at one point. Took out half of the drumset, and they only played about a 9 song set. He looked sickly and really reminded me a lot of Kurt Cobain in behaviour and appearance last night. They did not look happy on stage together. At one point they sent another guy on stage with them and while watching his hands, it looked almost like they had him playing Jesse Lacy's guitar parts. If not, they were playing stuff that was very similar. As dark as the new album is, and after seeing them last night, it wouldn't shock me if there was a blow up coming. That being said, I hope that I am wrong because I really like what I've heard from the new album and the untitled demos that were leaked a few months back. I'll have to give it some time before I try to compare it to Deja Entendu though.
11/16/2006 1:02:06 PM
^ Have they ever played a show unlike that?I saw them in 03 and it was horrible. 10 song set. lead singer had ZERO emotion. it was just awful. usually, love shows outdo the album. Brand New is the polar opposite.
11/16/2006 1:18:31 PM
I've seen them 4 times if you count last night. Last night was pretty noticibly worse than anything I'd seen of them before. Their show I saw the Norva in Norfolk was really good, really high energy when they were touring for Deja Entendu. I can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure that was November '03. The one at the Cat's Cradle a few months after that (Feb. '04 if memory serves correctly), not nearly as good, but then again, I've never been a fan of the Cat's Cradle. The stage set up just puts a lot of limitations on what you can do. We were in DC this summer around the time they played at John's Hopkins and caught that show and even though the venue was pretty bad, they put on a decent show. Last night, it just looked like everyone was going through the motions and really didn't want to be there.Maybe it was just that they were unhappy to be opening for Dashboard while trying to get interest in a new album out. They didn't once mention that Dashboard would be coming up next during their set which struck me as a little odd. Even when I saw the Foo Fighters/Red Hot Chili Peppers, they mentioned each other and either of them could headline in their own right. So I don't really know what was going on between the two bands.
11/16/2006 2:07:21 PM
well i guess that would explain the darker lyricshopefully he doesn't end up like kurt. he isn't dating courtney love or anything is he?
11/16/2006 2:09:57 PM
fuck !!!! i thought this thread was a blog. i was going to commend this guy for knowing how i feel sometimes.
11/16/2006 2:26:47 PM
^hahahahahah, that is fucking hillarious, ggi cant believe that the lead singer of brand new has been compared to kurt cobain in this thread[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 2:30 PM. Reason : FTW]
11/16/2006 2:29:44 PM
11/16/2006 3:24:46 PM
^^Not musically, just in appearance and mannerisms from two shows. Musically, I don't think they could be much more different.
11/16/2006 3:36:07 PM
i wasn't impressed when i saw them this past summer. from what i could tell, they lacked major stage presence and enthusiasm. the crowd was one of the greatest i've ever been in, but i got the impression they (brand new) didn't even want to be there. it's a shame too...otherwise i would be more excited to see them again.btw thorsten, did you ever TA for woodrum's soc classes? i remember having a TA when i was a freshman named thorsten. random.
11/16/2006 5:27:45 PM
^nope, sure haven't. And I have yet to meet another Thorsten...EVER. Even in Germany. I only knew one, and he spelled it Torsten. (the H is silent anyways)
