Business district (perimiter parkway between airport and chapel hill rd.)

Havent had a ticket in a few years, but cant really remember the exact date.

Does anyone know what the consequences are if I just pay the fine, or is it worth my while to show up at court and ask them to reduce it.... and if so, what would be my realistic goal for getting it reduced to?

Thanks for the help!

get a lawyer and pray for a 9 over so it doesn't effect your insurance. If your last ticket was outside of three years from the date of your tickey you've got an "ok" chance if your lawyer is good.

the law mandates a suspended licence for a violation of 20 mph or more. so unless you dont value driving. you need to try to get it reduced atleast 5 mph

you'll be in poor shape with a 20 over and just paying the fine

I'd take your prayer for judgement inorder ot keep your licence... but as VVV said. the judge may not give it to you. But they will fuck you hard if you use your prayer and then get another violation

hey rob, check this stuff out. if youre still taking classes at state i would go in and talk to the student legal people.

For consequences:

Generally, its always worth it (in terms of potential insurance increases) to show up and get it reduced. some people will say use your prayer for judgement, but i tried that once and the judge wouldnt give it to me. he said he only grants them in cases where the persons license is in jepordy.

oh and theres tons if info in older ticket threads:

good luck

Not going to do you any good in this situation. That intersection is in Wake County, and the "improper equipment" violation does not exist in Wake.

Rob, if you don't speed a lot (sounds like you don't), a prayer for judgement is probably your best bet. The violation will be put in limbo, and as long as you don't get another ticket in the next 3 years, it will be gone. You still have to pay court costs, but you don't get any license points. One caveat is that _some_ insurance companies track PFJs and could jack your rates. Geico does not, but I tried to switch to Amica, and they gave me a high rate because of the PFJ.

If you do speed a lot, try to get it reduced to 9 over. Depending on whether the ADA is in a good mood that day, you can probably just ask and they'll do it. If you're not very [traffic] court savvy, a lawyer may be the best bet. 9 over does not give you any insurance points, and while you have to pay the fine, you won't see an insurance rate hike.

Either way, I don't think you can just pay it. for 20 over, i believe you are required to be present in court, even if you just plan on pleading guilty. It should indicate that on the ticket.

i wouldn't use a pjc for that. he could talk with the d.a. and get it reduced to +9 over and have it dropped. it wouldn't add any points to a license by doing it this way also. he's gonna pay c.c. either way so i'd save the pjc just in case he gets a greater charge later on.
