The old thread had expired...Does anyone know of boxing gyms around here? Close to campus would be great, but anywhere in Raleigh would be helpful -It's always been something I've wanted to get into, and these days I think I actually have the time for once

yea it would get you in ALOT better shape than karate.the karate thing gets old, but the fundamentals of blocking would prolly be helpful

do you guys know what these places offer in particular? in terms of classes, equipment, hours, etc...i'm gonna start calling around this afternoon i think, most of these places's websites don't really explain all that much

fit 24 offers classes twice a week. the boxing equipment is limited to a ring, a couple of punching bags, and the frames for a speed bag and double-end bag...meaning, youd have to provide your own swivel and speed bag, and double end bag, gloves, hand wraps, jump rope, etc. they are open 24 hours sun-fri @ 8 or so, and have limited hours on saturday (i think). if you wanted more lessons, you would have to pay one of the coaches privately.never been to nbs, but havent heard great things. they pressure people to fight who arent ready or dont want to. they are kind of expensive, and also offer fencing and muy thai, so the hours for boxing would be limited.

holla if you need heavy bag for your house. possibly a speed bag to0.. i have moved to a house where i can't use either because of lack or room/ noise levels. its 100 lb vinil (nevatear) everlast heavy bag, and basic everlast speedbag with mounts and swivel. some wear on the speedbag but heavy bag almost new condition. i might keep the speedbag cause i use it behind carmichael sometimes, but i have no need for the base or the wall mounts

Raleigh institute of Martial Arts - Its a Royce Gracie sponsored gym. They do everything from Jui Jitsu to Muay Thai (they have a boxing ring there as well). They offer classes every day of the week pretty much. The only thing is its a little pricey. The classes are generally small so you learn a lot of proper technique and skill. http://www.teamrima.com/index.cfm[Edited on December 14, 2006 at 4:09 PM. Reason : .]
