Anyone on here have any experience with these?

btt, it makes an intermittent scrubbing sound when loaded, in both 4wd and 2wd

Is it a Polaris? Is it doing it all the time or just when it gets wet?

rubber bushings on the output pulley are shot, or the needle rollers got water in them and are rusted up/coming apart

its a 2000 suzuki quadmaster 500, i took the cover off because i thought it might be a bearing issue in the outer case, but it still does it with the cover off, 69 do you know if its a semi easy fix,or how complicated it is to get into these, basically i am wondering if I am going to have to let the stealership fix it.[Edited on November 9, 2006 at 12:48 PM. from what you are describing, i would suspect either the needle bearing, (#17), the rubber bushings (#14), or the clutch (#25), all of which are easily diagnosable and not worth taking to a dealership for gods sake, pull it apart and figure out where the sound is coming fromhttp://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/showschematic~dept_id~708814.asp

I took apart the cvt all the way down, even took the clutch pack out, no parts had any visible wear, and all bearings were pretty tight, any other ideas?

still going with the drive pulleys/external problems, and are you posiive an axle hasnt shit the bed?.the seals suck on those and water will destroy them quickly

What exactly happens when that clutch pack goes bad, the sound happens upon initial accel, and under load, and when i hit hard bumps, and when i let off, the clutch pack didnt appear to be bad as far as the friction surface goes, but there was definately wear on the sides of two of the little fingers that spread out, not sure how this could make the noise, but i am really out of options other than letting the stealership get ahold of it, and if i end up taking it to someone, can someone recommend a pretty reputable place to get it serviced?[Edited on November 11, 2006 at 2:02 PM. I applaud this thread... real question, real help, real solutions...thankyou for being true to the spirit of the garage

i'm still not sure i understand the noise are describing, is it a grinding or a rubbing sound? and can you feel it or just hear it? if al the bearings feel good, theres no sign of water in there, and nothing is visibly worn, then i would say fuck it and ride it like it is, cause the clutch pack is >$200 so if i still works, let it go, nothing you can really do to prolong it, also is the belt still soft and flexible? if it is slick and hard where it hits the pulley, you probably need a new one
11/12/2006 6:51:18 PM
sounds like the belt is about to go (fray or something)have you been running it with loads in high range?my Yamahas have never had a problem with it yet, but I know some other CVT transmissions are prone to belt damage...
11/12/2006 7:13:52 PM
well it will still run like 50, and the clutch doesn;t slip but the noise is annoying, but i guess i may just ride the hell outta it until something breaks, then i will know the prob, ethir that or i will go trade it in on something
11/12/2006 8:52:26 PM
I'd go ahead and fix it...a belt is cheap, but if it breaks it will tear the housing up and add a few hundred to the cost of repair
11/13/2006 8:31:49 AM
i am almost sure the belt is still good, its still pretty flexible, and doesnt seem to be hard anywhere or have any spots where its necking down
11/13/2006 10:40:43 AM
one last question....besides slipping what are some other symptoms that the clutch pack its going bad, because it also jerks going into gear kinda like the clutch isn't releasing enough, just curious if i have narrowed it down enough to drop the $$$ on a clutch....thanks, again for any help

forgot to ask because it seemed obvious, but did you check the plastic drive cover for rubbing on the pulleys? they can warp from engine heat and rub under load

problem ended up being the bearing on the main gear. after the bearing failed, the gear migrated a bit and contacted the case on each revolution, making the noise. eventually the gear failed all together. had to split the case to get to it all.
