i have a box full of technology stuff i need to get rid of. I've sold what I could, and the rest is working and not working stuff - LCD panels, gutted laptops, optical drives, etc. I don't want to throw it away because 1) some of it is still useful and 2) i think you're not really supposed to throw a lot of this stuff away because of lead and mercury and stuff. i've gone through the list on Wake County gov of technolgy recycling centershttp://tinyurl.com/bwbc4i tried http://www.technologyrecycler.net/ - i'm convinced they're basically a scam, and if not, then at the least a very shady operation that i don't want to do business withhttp://www.ladcomms.com/ is listed on the wake county site for recycling, but their own site doesn't say anything. i've called them 3 times with no return callI've tried a couple others on there and they either don't return calls or only accept very specific types of junk. any ideas? other places to unload this crap?

Can't you just take it to the landfill on Durant Rd? Maybe I missed something from that link, but they have big bins full of computers in the "appliances" area.

yeah, i guess. i think i'm operating under the delusion that someone would find some of this crap useful, so i don't want to throw it away, but dump it on someone else to sift through and figure out what's good and what's trash

i really thought it was illegal to dump components that are high in lead and mercury...do i have proof? no...but it seems like common senseand like agentlion said, i'd rather donate it to SOMEONE than simply stick it in a landfill

It gets recycled when you take it to the dump.I wonder if RoHS compliant equipment can be tossed into the landfill in a few years when it starts to age out.
