The sony fontopia ear buds (~$47) are great for the price.

They have 3 different silicon earpiece attachments as well, for small, medium, or large ears.

I pulled off medium and I have normal ears, so I think they'd have room.

How come I have never heard of this band elsewhere? Is it a new brand?

Is it owned by some bigger well-known brand? And where is it based?

What else do they make other than headphones? And how much do these headphones cost?

^^ shure is a big name in pro/prosumer audio gear. they make some of the most widely used microphones in the industry. they made SOME headphones before, mostly stage monitors for arists, but now they are capitalizing on this ipod craze. it' quality stuff though.

kinda same with sennhaiser, but they used to make as many headphones as they did microphones. i have never tried their earbuds, cant tell but the studio headphones are nice (even the cheaper models)

koss is a cheap no-name brand has been around for a while. you can find it at walmart and bestbuy and all. maybe they now have higher-quality stuff, but i have not seen it around. i had a decent (for the price) set of studio-style headphones, but all their earbuds i have ever tried sucked. havent tried anything they made recently though, maybe they are improving r&d, also trying to keep up with the ipod people

Koss is good if you want something cheap that you don't have to feel bad about ruinning. Sennheiser, Shure, and Ultrasone are the BMW, Rolls Royce, and Lexus of portable audio to some extent. Sennheiser isn't as well known for their earbuds as Shure is. Shure is the most widely accepted king of ear-buds.

^^koss has been around for a LONG time and was one of the first (if not the first?) maker of stereo headphones.

i've owned a couple pair of koss headphones. the sound quality is pretty good, but they aren't made sturdy enough for my liking. i have a pair of sennheiser hd-280 pros now and i love them.

I have com Koss kcs75 and they sound better than alof ot ethe 50 dollar sony headphones ive bought, read around the koss headphones (people used to love the portapro) have been known for cheap quality for a while.

I use my stuff at the gym, and i find that earbuds are annoying when im in the gym (just dont work well when im swetting).

has some decent information, they have all the snobbish high end audiofile stuff to down and dirty realistic items especailly when you worry about having them lost or stolen or stepped on.

^^ I know Ultrasone and Sennheiser are both german. For earbuds, ultrasone is the best. For regular style headphones and dj style Senheiser is really good. For ultra-premium studio headphones ultrasone makes some insane sets. They have a limited set, the 999 series, that's a couple grand a pair.

Anyways, there's no particular order, but for the best earbuds Shure is definately up there at the top. For something around 50 bucks, sennheiser has some great offerings in many different (ear bud and non earbud) styles.

with the Shure E4c earbuds, its hard for me to justify spending more for the earbuds than the music player, thats why I went with the E2c's. But I'll say that Shure has some top notch customer service. My E2c's broke where the wires wrap over the top of your ears, both earphones went dead. Shure has a 2-year warranty on defects, but mine were outside that 2 year period by a few months. I mailed them back and was sent a brand new pair of E2c's within 5 days, no questions asked, no cost to me.

If this pair lasts another 2 years, I'll consider dropping the money on whatever Shure's top of the line headphones are at that time.

So I listened to the Shure E4c's at Tweeter, I hated the sound. However, the E500's sounded amazing; exactly what I was looking for. My problem is I can't drop $500 on headphones. Are there any out there that are comparable and cheaper?

I've had the Shure E4c for over a year now. they have excellent sound, are very comfortable, and pretty much block out all external noise. I can watch movies on my PSP at half volume on an airplane and hear every word and sound clearly...hell, I head things on my flight back from vegas in an episode of South Park that I never heard watching it on TV. You can find great deals on them with a little internet crawling.

^^ In my experience those headphones aren't very loud and they take a lot of power to drive. The sound is good.... just muted.

^ They stay in your ear great. The higher end ones can have custom earmolds made for them.

So I tried the E2c, E4c and E500PTH and I can honestly say the only one's I like were the E500PTH, but I couldn't justify spending $500 on headphones. However I was interested in the Bose TriPort IE so I picked some up since I could find any to sample.

At first I was a little disappointed in the lows muffling the highs so much, so I decided to play with the iPod EQ. I swear, if you turn on the treble booster on the EQ, the TriPort IE sound just as good as the E500PTH.

I could not be happier with my purchase.

Fair warning though, unless you can play with an EQ, I don't recommend the TriPort IE. I tried plugging them into my mom's laptop and it was the same super low lows shit. I would think most the people posting in this thread have access to an EQ though.

what's the difference in between the model numbers (just design or something else? the 2 or 3 would be the only ones in my price range)?

any place around here i could try them on first before i bought them for cheaper online or something? i've had bad luck with the earbuds not staying in my ear.
