First off, we would have had that game lost long before the first snap with the fan support I'm seeing on here. Utterly pathetic. Nobody is optimistic. Nobody wants to give us any credit. We're in "Blame NC State" mode here, folks. Now, who should take blame for the losses?MARC TRESTMAN. Year after year, everyone gets on Chuck like he is the one causing problems. HE IS A DEFENSIVE MIND. What part of our team is always superb? THE DEFENSE! With Chuck's recruiting, defensive mind, and fire, you can only go so far with an offensive coordinator who WILL NOT OPEN THE PLAYBOOK!. We need to come out going for the kill every game! Even Noel Mazzone was better than this (he had a great QB, of course, but we could too with better playcalling!). So what should we do?-Throw the ball downfield-Run to set up the pass-utitize our speed! run some options!oh, yeah, and the most important thing: NEVER GIVE UP.6-6 will get us in a bowl (the benchmark of NC State football), and I think we're heading for that, despite however many of you predict only 4 wins. Get your "wet blanket" out of here!

Who hires and fires the OC? A great D does not do mean anything without W's
10/29/2006 9:35:56 AM
i seriously doubt that Trestman is to blame completely.. we had playcalling problems with Mazzone as well.. someone is telling the OC to play conservativea good HC would see problems with his offense, even with a defensive mind, and pressure his assistances to do better.. If Chuck was a good HC, he would be ripping the head off of Trestman asking for more. Do you seriously think that Trestman is staying on page 1 of the playbook because he wants to? Everyone except our coaching staff knows that aggressive playcalling wins ACC games (see Norm Chow's era at NC State, look at Wake Forest's offense)Playing to win vs Playing to not lose all lies on the HC.Discipline, our biggest problem, lies on the HC. He needs to do something to control penalties. Force the players to run laps during practice, whatever it takes, every time they commit a penalty.if you want to blame Trestman, blame it on his style of offense, not his playcalling. Remember he's trying to establish the West Coast offense, which should work with our talent and speed, but we're just not using plays that would keep the defense honest. What should we do?1 throw downfield.. ok i'll give you that one.. but our WR need practice catching the long ball2 run to set up the pass.. do we not run 80% of the time? I must be missing something.. should be pass to set up the run game.3 run options .. i agree with you on this one.. we have talent and speed, but I think Stone fucked any chance of us trying the option game anytime soon.
10/29/2006 9:47:38 AM
its chuck's idea to play conservative...you heard him on the post game talking about how "oh all these games, we're just 1 play away from winning and we'll get there, we'll get there"shit like that has to stop, this whole lets not play to win (and frankly go out there and beat someone's ass), the idea is lets just keep it close and stay in the game and have a chance to win in the very end.
10/29/2006 10:57:05 AM
I don't know if we are ready for the option, I see many fumbles if we tried much of that.I've been questioning our offensive play calling all year.1. If you run the ball as much as we do, you HAVE to mix in the play-action to keep D's honest.2. Attack down-field3. Pass more4. Run more of the offense under-centerThe last few games all of our TD drives have been from the intermediate passing game and moving the ball down the field. If you are moving the ball through the air at will, why stop? Yesterday we went right down the field on UVA and got down to the 20, and turned into a running team and had to settle for a missed FG. That was one of the strangest things I've seen. I agree if you pass it down the field, throw in a draw or two to keep the teams honest, but don't do it 3 straight times in the redzone.I don't know who the problem is. We keep bringing in new OC's, and we keep running the same type of offense. I have to think that Chuck is the man who sat down and told Trestman what he wanted to run. I did read where Trestman said he is going to run when tied or ahead, and then pass when behind(one of the dumbest things to do in the first 3 quarters).Oh yeah, our D has been good because of talent, but this year we seemed to have lost too much and it just isn't as good as it has been.Defensive Poblems:1. Big plays2. Running counters3. Running reverses4. Late game stands(that shitty ass prevent/zone we run)We seem to enjoy giving up late drives to give the opponent the go-ahead.We have a lot of work to do, there are too many fingers to point. Chuck and all of the coordinators deserve a finger pointed at them.

10/29/2006 11:00:26 AM
Next time one of my employees is doing a crappy job....I'm just going to think "NEVER GIVE UP"The fan support at NC State is fantastic...have you even been to the games? We support players and the team 100%. We got raped at Southern Miss but the stadium is sold out and rocking next week. It will be rocking against GT also. Part of support is realizing when a change needs to happen for the betterment of the team. Our players deserve better than what they are currently getting. This "if you complain you aren't a fan" mentality is retarded.[Edited on October 29, 2006 at 11:05 AM. Reason : .]

our fans are so terrrible. it all started when nobody showed up for the wake game. that had to be the worst crowd ever. once wake picked up a first down it was SILENT. then after the loss the teeam comes online and sees everybody talking about how we'regoing to lose to unc and they have nothing left to play for.

its the HCs job to make sure the team is prepared on both ends of the fieldthe false start, holding, false start combo has got to stopthe HC needs to do a better job to make sure the team has that mental edge to not flinch on the line
10/29/2006 12:10:17 PM
you know what's really pathetic, randy? people who tell us after every loss that we'll win out the season. we're bad, everyone knows it, get over it. you being optimistic on the internet does not change how the team plays. i'm still at every game, but i'm not an idiot, i know we're bad.

For the record, 6-6 won't get us in a bowl. You can only count a 1AA win towards bowl eligebility once every 3 years. We used a 1AA win last year which would leave us at 5-6 for bowl purposes this year. Busides, if I'm not mistaken you have to have a record above .500 anyway to make a bowl game. We must win out.
10/29/2006 12:54:19 PM
^Nah 1-AA wins count every year now because of the 12-game schedule.BUT LET'S TRY AND GO TO BOISE!
10/29/2006 12:56:48 PM
fall break is no excuse to not support your team. the way you say it nobody caress anyway thye just go because they are stuck in raleigh with school and as soon as they get a chance they leave and could care less abotu football. thats what im talking about.

we won the akron game. you guys come online firing the coach and saying we will win 2 games this year ruins team moral
10/29/2006 2:53:14 PM
We lost the akron game plain and simple. The call would not have been reversed. And if the players look on here and go by what others are saying, then they shouldn't be on the field.

Look, the fans aren't the problem. It's a combination of the team only being able to get fired up for the FSU game because of Chuck's "they didn't think you were good enough to play at FSU" speech and the terrible, terrible playcalling on both sides of the ball. The defense somehow manages to both overpursue and play too far off the receivers. Seriously, any team can just throw to the flats or run a reverse for a five to ten yard gain EVERY SINGLE PLAY. On offense, the only time we open up the playbook is if we're playing a ranked team. The only runs we did against UVA were straight up the middle and a toss left over and over, that didn't work. Instead of trying another play or throwing some long balls to back the defense up, they just kept running those same two runs and dink-and-dunk Tom Brady passes for -2 to 3 yards. Then in the second half, I don't remember there being a single run play, which led to the interception at the end of the game. We need balance, and we need to play to win in both halves of the game.I won't even get into penalties, but seriously, there is a lot wrong with the coaching staff's decisions that hasn't changed in the past three years.

they still play hard. but other teams whose fans arent like fsu's come on and see supportive fans and realize what they are playign for is bigger than their team. THEY PLAY THAT MUCH HARDER. when we're playing as hard as we can against teams like virginia and maryland who have the extra motivation it works like a handicap and makes it that much harder to win.frustration is ok. its fine to vent on saturday and sunday but you gotta put the past behind you after that. every week is a new season with new possibiliesBUT WHEN YOU VENT ABOUT WHAT HASNT HAPPENED YET OR ASSUME THE WORST THATS WHERE YOU BECOME A BAD FAN.so all i'm asking, all the team is asking is that you are there for us when we are winning and REALLY THERE for us when we are losing. the key to a rebound is fan support. if we can band together and beleive in our team beating clemson our team will have more reason to go in there and win. if we don't come together as a fanbase and support our team and coach then we will get blown out of there.when a team goes down 0-2 at home in the best of 7 they lose 83% of the time. the hurricanes fans didnt look at that and say they sucked. they rallied and gave their team something to play for. that stanley cup was bigger than the team bigger than the franchise they were playing for the whole triangle. whole state.

Do any players read this board? You people ought to be ashamed if they do.
10/29/2006 5:30:26 PM
if they read it or not, it spreaeds like a cancer and people talk abotu it media talks about it and players hear about it one way or another. they can also tell by how you look at them on campus after a loss. YOU GUYS ARE A CANCER TO THE TEAM.
10/29/2006 5:32:32 PM
i can see that. recruits read the packpride.com message boards, i know that. plenty of fans are complaining on there, and its not a good reflection of the program right now. a better reflection would be the amazing facilities, the ones that continue to make us an NFL factory.
10/29/2006 5:36:23 PM
I have no problem with our players. It's the coaching and the lack of discipline taught that bothers me.
10/29/2006 5:37:23 PM
the most penalized team in the nation is Florida. penalties and discipline like youre talking about arent what makes a team mediocre, obviously. in this case, it is playcalling by the offensive coordinator (who is very offensive to me!)
10/29/2006 5:38:56 PM
Florida can get away with it...WE CAN'T.
10/29/2006 5:40:47 PM
Florida knows how to use their talent and the penalties and mistakes very seldom come back to bite them in the ass, unlike us.
10/29/2006 5:40:51 PM
yesbecause of our "offensive" offensive coordinator. when will you understand that? anyone that knows football knows that.
10/29/2006 5:43:30 PM
It isn't all Trestman. He coached in the NFL for over 15 years, and was the offensive coordinator when the Raiders went to the Superbowl. He didn't get retarded overnight.I think he is trying to run an NFL style offense in a college system where it isn't going to work. THIS IS WHERE CHUCK HAS DONE NOTHING SINCE TRESTMAN GOT HERE.
10/29/2006 5:46:40 PM
10/29/2006 5:48:53 PM
chuck has done nothing except try to get the best out of his players this season. he trusts the OC. maybe it is time he didnt, but he knows better than us. last year he looked like a genius around this time, when we were turning the corner and finishing strong. we can do the same this year. he's done it before, let him do it now.
