look at the linksys router, which one? specific name/version.
10/25/2006 5:29:04 PM
wireless-g broadband router
10/25/2006 5:35:48 PM
What's the model number? I think Linksys has changed the default IP and user/pass of their routers over the years.
10/25/2006 5:40:22 PM
WRT54G
10/25/2006 5:46:09 PM
RTFMlook, i know the idea of doing this yourself is daunting, but the manual has PICTURES, which you're not likely to get from tdubbers
10/25/2006 5:56:25 PM
seriously if my technical, computer inept girlfriend can set up a router with password protection, i think you can as well.
10/25/2006 5:58:32 PM
I got this from the Linksys website, about setting up a WRT54G:http://www2.nohold.net/noHoldCust541/Prod_1/Articles57815/Enabling_Wireless_Security_On_a_Linksys_Router_Using_a_Non-Linksys_Wireless_Adapter.htm?]

girl's from durham no less...if you can dodge bullets when walking down the street, i imagine you can set up a wireless network all by yourself
10/25/2006 6:01:41 PM
Just because you're from Durham doesn't mean you dodge bullets or rape strippers. Get over yourself and the generalizing statements. If you compare- Raleigh falls only slightly behind Durham in crime statistics.I didn't have a box or directions- it was given to me. Thanks for the help.

Noone said anything about raping strippers. It was you! Wasn't it?

Click on the link above or you can download the user manual on this page:http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1149562300349&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapperThe page above should walk you through most of it. If you never touched anything then anyone could have logged in with the defaults and locked you out. Holding the reset button for 30-60 seconds should make it revert to the defaults.

http://www.google.com/search?q=wrt54g+wireless+passwordMake sure you enable WEP instead of WPA to ensure the greatest level of compatibility (based on your description of the current scenario).
10/25/2006 9:47:40 PM
i could do this in about 5 minutes or so

If you grew up in Durham, you should know better.
10/26/2006 7:15:57 PM
i do...but embracing the stereotype makes me feel like i belong
