I decided last night that I need to get some window blankets to hang up at night because my single pane 6x6 windows are worthless for keeping heat in.Anyone know where I can get cheap blankets, blanket material (like that fleece stuff), or cheap quilts? I could get those nice thermal drapes, but I'm too jewish for that

I would try the Goodwill or raid a retirement home
10/24/2006 9:40:36 AM
Yeah, I'm thinking that route. They might be a little skeezy at the goodwill though...oh well, I'm not using them on my bed, just the windows.

I think the white europeans gave several to the native americans as gifts.
10/24/2006 9:52:09 AM
Yeah, goodwill.
10/24/2006 9:55:51 AM
the stuff you buy at goodwill should be clean

good thread, i was looking at target or walmart for something of this nature and everything is like $30+

I think I'll also pick up a grommet kit from a craft store. That way the holes won't rip out when my cats decide to climb them

They sell the fleece material by the yard at Wal-Mart back in the fabric section. I don't know how expensive it is, but they have a good variety.

^^don't bother with wal-mart's fabricsI'd have posted the price for polar fleece at hancock fabric (60" wide, $5.95 a yard, +/- $1), except it's cheaper and easier to buy from goodwill.wolfpacker - I have a grommet setter you can borrow. No need to shell out for a new one.
10/24/2006 2:21:37 PM
^I dunno, are they expensive? I've wanted one of my own more than a few times...

Back when I worked at the fabric store, I paid somewhere between $10 and $20 for it after discount. If you've ever wanted one before, and this isn't the only time you'll use it, go for it.FYI: Hancock Fabrics offers a 10 or 20% discount for students. forget which. Have to ask the cashier for the card to fill out with class and instructor info. They don't check. You will get their mailers, though (which isn't a bad thing)
10/24/2006 2:34:36 PM
Nah, I'll just use one of those 50% off one item coupons my mom always has for Michaels
10/24/2006 2:49:24 PM
get clear plastic wrap and seal your windows.same as the kits they sell for $10 each at wal-mart.works well for winter.[Edited on October 24, 2006 at 6:09 PM. Reason : thick clear vinyl work better.]

I use Walmart fabric all the time. For something like this you can get it EL CHEAPO off the clearance rack sometimes $2 or less for a yard.
10/24/2006 6:15:37 PM
it's a 10% discount for students. I wish it was 20%!
10/24/2006 6:34:04 PM
Wal-mart does have good prices on the fleece stuff. Also try Joanne's after you get a coupon or they're having a sale.
10/24/2006 8:34:11 PM
ross, marshalls, hancock fabrics all should have fleece/ fleece like material that is cheaper than wal mart
10/25/2006 3:33:16 AM
Yeah, AC Moore has it on sale, according to their website. But I'm going to go the goodwill route, I'm somewhat close to several store in Cary...and you KNOW those Cary soccer moms throw out some still decent stuff!

Uhaul sells packing blankets - they work well
10/25/2006 6:46:41 PM
