" Bunting To Offer Resignation

Unnamed but informed Administrative sources tell WCHL News that Head Coach John Bunting indicated that if the football team didn’t reverse its direction with a win in Charlottesville Thursday night, that he would spare the school the embarrassment of further losses and would offer his resignation by the end of the season – possible as early as this weekend.

Athletics Director Dick Baddour has said repeatedly that no decision would be made about Bunting’s tenure before the end of the season, but that does not preclude the coach and former linebacker from taking matters into his own hands.

He has a 25 and 41 win loss record overall, and still has more than 800 thousand dollars left on his contract."

I don't think him resigning would spare the school the embarrassment of further losses.

WOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDD

Jesse Holley: "Hey coach, who's gonna hear about you resigning today?"

Coach Bunting: "Everybody's gonna hear about it. Everybody in the WOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDD!"

Unidentified player in the background: "Hey coach is it gonna be in HD?"

i feel a great photoshop oppurtunity for those of you that do that sort of thing. here's some quality photos of Buntcakes and a few ideas.

not for long.

someone photoshop this one so that the sheet he's holding in his hand is a homeless sign.

he looks so confused here. makes sense i guess.

yo buy one of my john bunting UNC t-shirts while they're on sale. 99.9% off! hey at least they're better than the "Doherty's Disciples" shirts.

another "WOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLDDDDDD" photo for ya.

peace out Chapel Hill.

Yo turn my headphones up!

Baddour: Hey John it'll be alright. Thanks for taking some heat off of me by resigning. Now let's go draw up that severance package of yours.

The guy on the far left must now be thinking, "shit what the hell am I supposed to do with this shirt now?!"

This is horrible news. If they get someone worth a damn, they could be a very good program. I mean it was only 10 years ago they had back to back Top 10 finishes.

I hope that they go after a bunch of big name coaches and get shot down by each and every one of them, and then get shot down by some mediocre coaches, then finally get some guy out of the Sun Belt Conference.

That's why I said that I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, because I don't know the caliber of coach they will pick up.

"Bunting: Report of resignation not true
By Robbi Pickeral
North Carolina football coach John Bunting today denied a report stating that he plans to resign by the end of the season possibly as early as this weekend.
Citing "un-named but informed Administrative sources," WCHL News reported on its website that Bunting had indicated that if the football team didn't reverse its direction with a win at Virginia on Thursday night, he would, according to the report, "spare the school the embarrassment of further losses and would offer his resignation by the end of the season - possibly as early as this weekend."

Contacted this afternoon by The News & Observer, Bunting was asked if he had heard about the report, and whether it was true. "I have heard it,'' Bunting said. "It is absolutely not true."

Bunting's Tar Heels were shut out in Charlottesville 23-0 on Thursday night. They are now 1-6 this season, and have yet to beat at Div. I-A team this fall.

Ok well let's look at this. I doubt they'd be able to pick up a big name coach, barring they empty out the bank account, which they probably won't do considering they'll still be paying millions to Bunting and his staff. Emptying out the bank account is the only way I'd see a big name coach want to come in and play second fiddle to Roy and the basketball team (see Mack Brown; he wanted more money and didn't get it. probably the studpidest thing UNC has done in terms of football.). Also the new coach would have to come in and make some serious strides in changing the culture of the fans at UNC. He'll have to get them to actually tailgate, arrive early, stay late, and make some noise instead of sitting on their hands. Nearly everyone I know or have met that goes to UNC does not tailgate, and just drinks in the dorms prior to going to walking to the games. Also many of them that won't miss basketball games hardly ever go to the football games. I remember talking to one guy about what their atmosphere was like, and he was boasting all about how much fun he has at their basketball games, how he's a diehard fan and some of the crazy stuff that he and his friends do to get tickets, as well as stories of what other people have done as well. I asked him how the football games are, and he goes, "oh i don't really go to the football games." I nearly gave him the gas face (if you don't know what that is please research the song by 3rd Bass).

They may be able to get Johnson from Navy. He's not really a big name yet, and has ties to North Carolina. I doubt Steve Logan would come. The guy at Rutgers has said in numerous interviews that he plans on staying put there and building up that program into a nationally recognized program, of course loads of money can change all of that. There will be more attractive jobs than UNC at the end of the season. I think they could do well by getting some guy from the MAC (think about how many good coaches have come from that conference), WAC, or another mid-major conference.

ah damn well might as well strikethrough all of that ^.

damn what are they teaching these local journalists over at UNC, b/c they sure do like releasing stories that aren't true, made up, or just pure speculation.

Talked to my brother (lifelong Crapolina fan) just now. He was in his Jeep driving back to his house and he said that he heard Packman say that Terry Bowden (old Auburn coach, current ABC college football analyst) was considering the job.
