Just picked mine up. This is far superior to the iPod, especially if you are one of those people that hates sitting down and ripping 100 CD's

The older Sansa (the pre-Rhapsody special edition) is awesome, except for the fact that the best feature about it (PlaysForSure) involves Rhapsody.

it is a nice little unit, but about twice as thick as a nano.

It plays video and has an FM Tuner, though.

Though I've never used the latter and have heard it sucks

you subscribe to rhapsody for $14.99/month (which I was already doing)

you choose what albums you want

it then copies them directly to the unit with the click of a button

of course, you're effectively "leasing" the music, because it will stop working as soon as you cancel your subscription

but, I have had Rhapsody for years so this thing was made for me

I especially like how it copies everything accurately (title, artist, etc.) so you don't have to go searching for random shit

it can also copy random mixes or "channels" from Rhapsody. Then, if you find something you like in one of these channels you can add it by pressing a button on the device itself

it's fucking nuts really

just expensive

glad you see that

I figured you were talking about the subscription but I was hoping it was something else.

well, the way I see it, if you buy 1 CD a month it pays for itself

or, if you subscribe to WoW or any of that gay shit it's comparable to that

or if you're just willing to pay $15/month for unlimited music it's worth it

you do the math

What happens if the service goes under, you pretty much lose all that music.

I think though there's a program that can strip the DRM, so you can keep the music forever...

o rly

well, either way, if I stop paying for the service, I still lose the music forever

so, theoretically if they go under I'm at the same place where I would be if I just stopped paying

unless they can somehow go under with me still paying the bill

plus I've had it from the very beginning and it has continually gotten better

There's a program that lets you strip the DRM off of the WMA files you download.

They've started shifting to RAX files though for Rhapsody 4 though, and I don't know if the program works for that.

...as long as Rhapsody carries the bands you're interested in.

I saw somebody with one of these the other day and didn't know what it was. It looks like a Chinese bootleg Nano in person, but the idea is cool. I can't find anywhere that says a) if it'll play all the un-DRM-ed mp3s I currently have or b) what bands / labels are on Rhapsody. I hate to be that guy who doesn't listen to Nickelback and Gwen Stefani like ^ but I probably would kill myself if I had to listen to "My Humps" every morning on the way to work.

go to http://www.rhapsody.com to see what all they have, it's more than you can ever imagine

the real benefit is getting access to all the live discs and shit that you would be hesitant to buy

and yes it can play MP3's that you've ripped as well

Last time I checked they didn't have any Beatles music.

The search engine above is currently not working.

I also like rhapsody better... I had the service and stopped it because I couldnt use the songs on my new mp3 player...

However, very easy to use service, and If I was to buy a music player, it would be the new sansa with rhapsody service instead of ipod... 15 a month for unlimited music is pretty good.

it's sad how people have no problem with paying $10 for warcraft but shudder at the idea of paying for music
