Good lord.

That place is going to be huge... Mega-huge.

I bet they might've had more business at the old one if they just had a decent hotel next to it in the first place.

Oh well, maybe now the high school kids can graduate in mega-luxury!

Does anyone know who the Architect for the Convention Center is? It looks very similar inside to the Virginia Beach Convention Center which has been under Construction for a while now. VB's Architect was SOM.

what i don't get is why all the commotion over the art project that got cancelled because it would "block the view of the memorial auditorium"? do these people not realize that once the convention center is built, the view will be blocked permanently?

^^^ the new convention center is moved over to the west like a block and half. check out the map on the right of the link

http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_306_203_0_43/http%3B/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/project/public/livable_streets/convention.htm

i think one problem with that art project was that they wanted it BEFORE they tore down the old convention center. at this point everything was fine. then when they blew up the old CC, this new "great" view was created and support for the project sank.

actually, the city council tried to change the design, and the CEO of CBC who was giving 2 million to pay for it didn't want the design altered, so he removed funding

The architect for the convention center is TVS, which has done several convention centers similar to this one including one in DC. Clearscapes is the local architect assisting with the project.
