wow. you really start to feel sorry for those people
10/13/2006 1:08:51 PM
they may be so isolated to the point where they do not know of modern day luxuries you and I possibly take for granted
10/13/2006 1:24:19 PM
true
10/13/2006 1:35:04 PM
I thought Kim Il Song was the past president?
10/13/2006 1:39:05 PM
Wow.
10/13/2006 1:54:46 PM
Yeah the control of information is so strict over there that a lot of citizens believe they live in the most advanced country. Hmm, control of information. Sounds familiar.
10/13/2006 1:56:37 PM
Wow, awesome pictures!North Korea can afford:- nuclear weapons- giant and pointless monuments- miles of electric fencesBut they can't afford:- running water for it's citizens- electricity past 11pm- New houses for the grannies- Working traffic lights... tears for my asian brothers n' sisters
10/13/2006 2:11:00 PM
I kept reading the thread. The only upside I can see to NK is at least it appears peaceful and clean. The amount of brainwashing and information manipulation probably boggles the mind to an outsider.
10/13/2006 2:41:44 PM
I have a feeling that opening you mouth and saying the wrong thing in public there will end up in your death if you aren't a foreigner.Looks like a terribly unfortunate place.
10/13/2006 2:54:58 PM
Anyone gonna watch that National Geographic thing with Lisa Ling. They wear the Kim Il Son pins b/c he is like their 'god'...and kim jong il is like the son of 'god'. I saw a clip from her show and when foreign doctors performed cataract surgery on NK's they basically prayed to photo's of Il Song and Jong Il like they were gods.
10/13/2006 2:55:32 PM
Using god as a means of power is nothing new. Such is the reason we supposedly have division of church and state. The Chinese employed the mandate of heaven in a similar means.
10/13/2006 3:01:57 PM
The big monument looks like what you progress through as you face different opponents in Mortal Kombat.
10/13/2006 3:13:52 PM
no, it doesn't.but this does: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...korea+children
10/13/2006 3:21:16 PM
Wow, that is some crazy totaltarianist shit. Good job with the thread cs storm.
10/13/2006 3:22:00 PM
^^
10/13/2006 3:25:00 PM
I'd really hate to be in a battle with these ppl not b/c I fear them... B/c I pity them, and they have nothing to lose.
10/13/2006 3:32:24 PM
^^^^crazy. but that link didn't work for me.. try this.http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6951629397402742053&q=do..+korea+children
10/13/2006 3:34:05 PM
thats horriblewe should all be thankful for our country and the opportunities it has given all of us
10/13/2006 5:27:19 PM
Omg its so sad the disparity btw the north and south. Its utterly horrifying/amazing.
10/13/2006 5:54:00 PM
10/13/2006 5:58:16 PM
just finished the video. The drawings by escapees and the idea of cannabalism and human flesh being sold on the black market just sickens me...jesus!
10/13/2006 6:36:37 PM
wtf, those pictures don't look bad at all. Try looking at a pictures of Africa, southeast asia, or south and central america.
10/13/2006 8:52:03 PM
those are the good pictures of north korea. it's a hundred times worse than what those pictures depict. the stark contrast of the two koreas is startling.[Edited on October 13, 2006 at 9:23 PM. Reason : ]
10/13/2006 9:06:15 PM
^^at least relief reaches those places.
10/13/2006 9:32:27 PM
Yeah NK is definately a terrible place.but this is an incredible monument.[Edited on October 13, 2006 at 10:09 PM. Reason : ]

10/14/2006 2:44:39 AM
I've seen that video before. NK sucks. I feel terrible for their citizens
10/14/2006 4:34:45 PM
US and South Korean citizens are usually not allowed into north korea. north korean visa is stamped on a separate piece of paper so as not to prejudice getting a visa from some other country. They take it back once you leave the country but you are allowed to keep a photo copy as souvenier
10/14/2006 5:01:47 PM

You really feel sorry for those people, having to struggle under that oppression. I can't belive some people still think Communism could work...
10/15/2006 7:03:13 PM
^ding ding ding
10/16/2006 12:52:35 AM
communism could work if you had several base yaers of capitalism sucess and then switched. but most nations switch to communism while they are down so it never works. if usa switched to communism today it would work.

That thread may have been the most enlightening/educational ~60 minutes I've ever spent on the internet.CRAZY stuff. That place is locked down tight.
10/16/2006 10:22:12 AM
the thing that really struck me was how beautiful the beaches were... right past the electrified barbed wire fences to keep people from swimming away... it really is a shame.
10/16/2006 11:43:23 AM
everyone looks so ronery
10/16/2006 11:43:54 AM
what about the codes they would send to eachother... flashing lights to alert others that foreigners were on board...
10/16/2006 11:46:14 AM
How much for a trip over there? I found prices but they were in w's.. wutever that is.I assume wangichangs... but I could be mistaken.
10/16/2006 1:28:33 PM
http://www.koryogroup.com/tours/index.htmlhttp://www.koryogroup.com/tours/index-us.htmlLooks like prices are there in easily convertable currency (google like 30 euro to dollar), but getting to Beijing is on your own dollar. And also, I hope you're Canadian / British / something other than American, check this:

Wait, so, the people of the DPRK are suffering from famine, starvation, economic collapse, embargo, and now floods!?!?
10/16/2006 1:58:07 PM
that time of the month i guess....

That's crazy the people live under that. Take this, for example:
