Ok, i have this '92 Chaparral 17'8 inboard outboard 'speed' boat. It has an OMC 3.0l Cobra four banger. My dad and I redid the entire interior (it was rotted out when we got it), pulled the motor, cleaned it up, replaced all thing electrical, rebuilt the carb, and put the motor back in.The fucker won't start because it has no spark. Something is messed up in the harness and its killing coils. we've tried two new ones and after a while they stop working when we test them. No fuses are blowing. After the engine runs (hopefully it wont take much) we need to have the prop adjusted and looked over. We dont' really know whats involved w/ that so we'll let someone else or a shop handle it.Any of you boat guys feel comfortable taking a look at this? particularly the sterndrive/prop stuff? from what i've read it can be tricky to setup. We basically don't have time to mess w/ it and are ready to 'have it done'

"killing coils" Sounds like a ground problem. I would also have the ignition module checked. [Edited on October 13, 2006 at 3:27 PM. Reason : ?]

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/how do properly adjust the shift cable, etc. it looks as though a bad adjustment = dead gears.Yeh its definately an intermittent short somewhere. While checkthing through the harness, i thought i found it at one point, but then i lost it and it never came back. Its just a pain in the ass and i really don't have the time or patience to deal w/ it.69, Its in Goldsboro, but i could bring it up at some point.. I dunno. its cooling off now and so it'll probalby sit another winter. hah
