10/11/2006 4:59:45 PM
I dont see any other threads about this (in sports talk since its sports related)they just said that they found Lidle's passport on the road at the crash site, the plane hit a 50 story building in NYC, and Cory Lidle is believed to be the only person on board[Edited on October 11, 2006 at 5:01 PM. The Yankees can't hit, they evidently can't fly either
10/11/2006 5:10:14 PM
Corey Diedle
10/11/2006 5:11:12 PM
man, that's terrible can't believe he really died...how random
10/11/2006 5:13:28 PM
it's a-rod's fault... if he actually swung the bat in the postseason, then they'd be playing in the ALCS right now and Lidle wouldn't be flying around dying.

I fly a bit in small planes to start off.Lidle was flying his plane in Manhattan. When you're out in general airspace you have to be at the least 1000 ft above any population center. I am sure Manhattan is a lot higher than 1000 ft, not to mention area airports are very draconian on where you can fly at (restricted airspace for a commercial airport in simplified view is like an upside-down birthday cake).I don't see how Lidle was flying this low normally unless he had some kind of problem mid-flight (like the engine quit). If the engine quits, the airplane pretty much becomes a hang glider, and that's not a good thing to have when you're right above a city. If that was the case (losing the engine), his best case would've been to just do a controlled crash in the Atlantic or the Hudson.[Edited on October 11, 2006 at 5:21 PM. Reason : /]

the amount of speculation about "suicide" and the like will be annoying to say the least
10/11/2006 5:21:24 PM
its been raining in NY, so there were probably some low ceilings, that could account for the low flight^he has (enter salary) reasons not to commit suicide[Edited on October 11, 2006 at 5:22 PM. Reason : a]
10/11/2006 5:22:12 PM
not trying to be funny, buthow long 'til his passport shows up on ebay?
10/11/2006 5:23:04 PM
his ERA in last outing was 20.25definitely suicide
10/11/2006 5:24:00 PM
Damn that sucks. What a damn crazy season and now off season for the Yankees.

unbelievable its the 11th of the month
10/11/2006 5:32:51 PM
i really hope this wasnt anywhere near the hotel i booked last night on expedia.I didnt read all the user agreements about what happens if a plane crashes into your hotel the day before you check in.Am i still liable for the charges? I'm not made of money i cant afford to shell out $450 for a small room that has a plane in it.
10/11/2006 5:33:39 PM
^ I think there's a $25 "back out fee" if you do it early enoughOtherwise I'd bet you could fight them for a refund, but it won't be easy. They'll say it's not their fault it happened...Expedia isn't easy to deal with, at least in my experience.
10/11/2006 5:36:04 PM
uh, it hit an apartment building
10/11/2006 5:37:17 PM
10/11/2006 5:41:14 PM
I don't think CNN could find a better picture for this story
10/11/2006 5:41:29 PM
^^ what rate did you get? I didnt get a very nice hotel but im only like 4 blocks from Times Square and since the accompanying lady wanted to do all the touristy things i figured might as well pay for the location.okay i called to confirm arrival time (and because i dont trust expedia after one crazy experience) and he didnt say anything about a jet so i think im in the clear.[Edited on October 11, 2006 at 6:07 PM. They are seriously thinking about cancelling the Cards/Mets game because it is in NY, that and along with the rain.
10/11/2006 6:16:11 PM
10/11/2006 6:18:17 PM
^^ they are only going to cancel it b/c of the rain as far as I can tell...
10/11/2006 6:21:25 PM
yeah definitely... i booked a whopping 36 hours in advance with no discount or anything. had an expected death in the family so i wasnt sure if i was gonna be able to go...and of course my two friends in the city are out of town this week so no mooching.
10/11/2006 6:23:18 PM
what happens to cory lidle's remaining contract? are the yankees entitled to pay it out (to lidle's family or something), or do they get to keep the money? i bet steinbrenner is pretty happy if the latter is the case.
10/11/2006 6:34:38 PM
