These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon .The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires. This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:a... no more air valvesa... no more air compressors at gas stationsa... no more repair kitshttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter.jpghttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter-5.0.jpghttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter-4.jpghttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter-3.jpghttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter-1.jpghttp://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5311/2447/1600/ShowLetter-2.jpg[Edited on October 9, 2006 at 5:03 PM. this is old as shitthe thing that was preventing them from going fowards was coming up with a sidewall that the general public would accept(appearance-wise)
10/9/2006 5:25:25 PM
wrinkle-wall slick-style?

10/9/2006 8:16:16 PM
Just make these 4 times the price
10/9/2006 8:25:48 PM
need to use the search feature... This has been posted atleast 1/2 dozen times. I saw this 2 yrs ago.
10/9/2006 8:58:23 PM
Nah you don't make them four times the price. You make them one fourth as durable as they should be, so they bust a weld and require replacement (but you overbuild it enough so that it just looks broken, but would still hold up just fine).[Edited on October 9, 2006 at 9:02 PM. Reason : They probably still have tread and wear like normal tires as well, they just don't get flat.]

There are a TON of problems with these being used in passenger cars. They won't be showing up on any real cars anytime soon. The biggest issue is how ridiculously harsh the ride is with them, second only to the extra punishment they put on a car's suspension system

does mounting cost more?

I would put these on my car in a hot minute. I really don't give half a dick about how my wheels look.If these were so good, I would have expected to see them on military or fleet commerce vehicles well before they entered the consumer market.

i'm still not quite sure why, in the more than 5 years since these were announced, we haven't heard any more...obviously, not all products are feasible, and perhaps that's the case here, but i don't know why they wouldn't be...maybe they don't hold up well over time?
2/16/2010 10:43:33 AM
"don't try and reinvent the wheel""if it ain't broke..."
2/16/2010 10:49:49 AM
Those cliches are so true! Where to start? It would be a lot easier if I knew what the first wheel ever was like. Stone or wood I guess? I bet leather tires were the fucking shit back in the day. Too bad we don't have to deal with bias ply anymore...I'm sure it will shine in certain applications. As I recall the core is made of urethane which is very temperature sensitive as far as hardness goes. Thats probably a pain in the ass when you are trying to make all-season tires.
2/16/2010 12:03:32 PM
I don't know why anyone would want anything but a block of hard rubber for a skid steer tire. Those spokes look too fragile. For a car, I don't think you'd be able to fit big brakes. It would also be bad for stopping as the spokes spool. Retarded design.

i think the challenge with any new ground breaking technology is releasing it without instantly destroying existing infrastructures.i.e. tires that don't go flat = loss of businesses for 1) tire shops 2) towing services 3)gas stations etc.
