Just a reminder Garner is holding its annual Fireman's Day this Saturday October 7th, 2006.

"The Garner Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual Firemen’s Day Celebration on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Garner Fire Station #1 at the corner of Hwy 50 and Main St. Barbecue plates including pork barbecue, boiled potatoes, cole slaw, and hushpuppies for a cost of $6.00 will be served between 11:00 AM and 7:30 PM. There will also be a Chuckwagon set up serving hot dogs, french fries, and soft drinks during the same hours. Games for the children begin around 12:00 PM. Fire trucks will be on display for most of the afternoon.

A parade complete with fire, EMS and rescue vehicles, floats, bands, marching units, and much more will begin at 2:00 PM and will start at Hwy 50 and Garner Road, travel east on Garner Road, turn right on New Rand Road and turn right to continue on Main Street. Everyone is invited to participate free of charge. Contact Amy at 772-1550 for parade entry information.

Entertainment will be provided by Holiday band coming on stage around 4:00 PM.

To culminate the day’s events, a raffle will be held around 8:00 PM for a 2006 Ford Ranger XLT truck, plus over $3,000 in cash prizes. Tickets are on sale now for $5.00 and may be obtained from any Garner Firefighter or any Garner Fire Station.

I love how this can still be referred to as a "fireman's" day... that couldn't happen in many other towns/cities in this county, but then again Garner has always just kinda done their own thing anyways...

^i don't get why the name "fireman's day" would be a problem to anyone.

ah, memories of marching that route with band...

Creedmoor does the same type of thing. I never realized other places had one too.

^^ it's a PC thing.. ie saying that it should be "firefighter's" day but I'm not sure that Garner has any females on the dept... so I guess for them "fireman's" day may be appropriate
