Don't get me wrong, I am all about them having and needing their team back to get back to normal or whatever, but its been just over a year, and they are dropping that much fucking money on that? Thats just some bullshit, there is a ton of other more significant, necessary, and imortant things that money could and should have been spent on in that city. But it does look badass after the renovation. But I am thinking people would rather have houses, and other shit repaired instead.[Edited on September 25, 2006 at 8:11 PM. Reason : .]

never heard this argument before....but with that said, i completely agree, there are WAY too many other places that money should go towards

I just think its bullshit to drop that much money on something when there are still people homeless, jobless, and still totally fucked over because of Katrina when that money could have helped a ton of people.

haha, so if you lost your home in a hurricaine, you would rather live in a fucking FEMA trailer, and have your football team back than have a house built for you? haha, riiiight.Holy shit, you honestly cant sit here and argue that this money couldn't have been spent better, especially if the owner moves the team.[Edited on September 25, 2006 at 8:23 PM. I can agree there, but the main point is, this money could have been spent a lot better especially since the status of the team staying isnt certain. All I am saying is if you were homeless etc because of the hurricaine, you'd prolly be pretty fucking pissed that $185mil just got dropped on a sports stadium.[Edited on September 25, 2006 at 8:25 PM. Unfortunately, everything in that city is just gonna get blown over again eventually anyways. Sad, but true.
9/25/2006 8:32:32 PM
haha, I agree, another disaster needs to happen to just put that city out of its misery.
9/25/2006 8:33:31 PM
and on top of that, you really have to wonder. All those people still living in trailers a vast majority of them are in the lower 9th are they not? Perhaps the money isnt being spent there because they don't think its a good idea to rebuild everything the way it was before the hurricane. Urban planning takes time, a building can be rennovated with much greater ease.
9/25/2006 8:35:21 PM
first of all I am guessing insurance paid for part of it, so this is not money earmarked for the public anyways....the sugar bowl could bring in multi-millions, and maybe even cover this tab in 3-4 years with total economic inputand this argument could be extended ad nauseum....why have any pro sports when there are homeless around, why not take the money for the RBC and carter finley and go help the homeless in downtown raleigh.....i know katrina pulls at the heartstrings, but spending money on pro sports is a nationwide phenomenon that is about as american as apple pie, so if the ny yankees are going to ask the city and state for 800 million to build their place, why can't new orleans spend 185 million to feel whole again
9/25/2006 8:37:56 PM
Well said. But I still cringe that big daddy Stein wants $800mil for a new home. There is nothing wrong with Yankee stadium. Thats a lot of what makes the Yankees the Yankees.
9/25/2006 8:40:12 PM
You are going to help these people by creating an atmosphere for commerce. Shelling out cash is nice, but its not a long term solution. However, investing into infrastructure that will bring in big money to the area is what this city needs.
9/25/2006 9:14:51 PM
Yeah I feel ya on that, I never looked at it that way.

$185 million isn't that much really.LA wants to spend $800 million to reonovate the coliseum for an NFL team..http://www.nbc4.tv/news/9242141/detail.html?rss=la&psp=newsNow that is freaking ridiculous! It won't even be a new stadium! Consider the construction costs of some very modern stadiums:Heinz Field: $281 milQwest Field: $300 milGillette Stadium: $325 milReliant Stadium: $352 milFord Field: $430 milCardinals Stadium: $455 milLincoln Financial Field: $512 mil
9/25/2006 9:45:31 PM
Yeah the Cardinals new stadium is the shit. It is a dome, but the real grass field slides outside into the sunlight, then back in for games.
9/25/2006 9:54:28 PM
It is nice, but it's wierd that they would go to all that trouble.Do they really need a dome in Arizona?Doesn't seem like it would rain enough to justify paying what was probably an extra 150 million for a dome and retractable field. Seems like they just did it to stand out.
